The rich red and pink show on new growth and on the undersides, and only when the light is strong. Under low light it still grows well — it just stays green.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eThe sword shape arrives with maturity.\u003c\/strong\u003e Young plants look like ordinary narrow-leaved Buce. The elongated, pointed leaf and its ruffled margin develop as the plant reaches its adult 3–5 inches, which takes months.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eNever bury the rhizome. Roots may sit in substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots — the usual way an expensive Buce is lost. Tie or glue it to wood or stone with the rhizome exposed.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eStrong light is a trade-off.
