Half the leaf, half the height — and sterile. Hydrocotyle tripartita 'Mini' is a dwarf form of the standard clover pennywort: the same fast creeping runners and three-lobed leaves, but small enough to stay flat at 1–2 inches instead of climbing. This is the Vitro Culture® (tissue culture) format, so it arrives free of snails, algae and pesticide residue.

Grower's Notes

  • Light decides carpet or climber. Under weak light the runners stretch upward and it stops being a carpet. That is a lighting problem, not a plant problem — and it is the single thing that determines whether this works for you.
  • Rinse the gel off completely and separate into small portions before planting. Runners only travel into open substrate, so spacing decides how fast it closes.
  • Pin fresh portions down with weights or tweezers until roots grab; loose sections float free.
  • It grows fast. Trim runners every few weeks or it crosses into neighboring plants.
  • Buy Mini for nano tanks, standard for everything else — full-size Hydrocotyle tripartita reaches 3–4 inches and looks oversized in a small aquarium. Also available as fresh-cut, bunched or potted plants.

Notes

  • Slight melting or yellowing may occur as the plant transitions into your aquarium environment. With strong lighting and CO₂, the plant will adapt and send out new runners quickly.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Great specimen

It came in great condition. The gel was very easy to clean off. I was able to place a root tab beneath and then plant it right on top. Sometimes this species can be hard to plant due to the way it grows, but this sample is situated in such a way that the roots are easy to locate and insert into the soil. Very pleased with the result.
