Want a carpet that actually works in a low-tech tank? Staurogyne repens is the one. Sturdy stems creep sideways into a dense green mat, it takes trimming without sulking, and it does all of that without CO₂ injection — which almost no other true carpet plant manages.

What You’ll Receive

Sold as loose fresh-cut plants, bunched plants, or potted plants:

Fresh-Cut Plants: Approximately 6 individual, loose-cut stems without root
Bunched Plants: Approximately 6 stems without root bundled with foam and a plant weight
Potted Plants: Approximately 6 stems without root potted in rockwool and net pot

All plants are grown and prepared with care by Aquarium Plants Factory® to ensure healthy, vibrant growth upon arrival.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Staurogyne Repens, Creeping Staurogyne
  • Scientific nameStaurogyne repens
  • Origin — Rio Cristalino, Brazil
  • Placement — Foreground to midground
  • Shipped size — Approx. 6 fresh-cut stems, roughly 2-4 in
  • Mature height — 2–4 in
  • Suits — 10 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Medium

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner. Genuinely forgiving compared to other carpets
  • Light — Medium. More light means tighter, denser growth
  • CO₂ — Recommended, not required! This is the carpet for low-tech tanks
  • Water — 68–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Required. Root and water column feeder; nutrient substrate makes a visible difference
  • Growth habit — Amphibious creeping stem
  • Propagation — Cuttings — replant trimmed tops straight into the substrate

Grower’s Notes

  • Trim the tops early rather than waiting for height. Every cut forces side shoots, and that branching is what turns a row of stems into an actual carpet.
  • Plant the stems a couple of inches apart and let them creep together. Packed tight from day one, the inner stems shade each other and drop their lower leaves.
  • Replant the trimmings. Cut tops root readily in substrate, so a single purchase fills a foreground over a couple of months at no extra cost.
  • Yellowing lower leaves usually means light isn't reaching the base — either the mat has thickened or a taller plant is shading it.
  • Planting a large area? The Bulk Pack works out cheaper per stem. Also available as sterile Vitro Culture.

Want to go deeper? Read our complete Staurogyne Repens Care Guide.

Notes

  • Photos are for reference; leaf size, density and color vary with lighting and nutrients. Minor melt during acclimation is normal, with new growth following.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

First order - Staurogyne Repens

Placed order on Sunday evening and order shipped out the next day on Monday. Received product two days later on Wednesday. This shipment was all in southern California. Two days should be a reasonable expectation level. However, other plant suppliers charge 9.50. I paid 22.99 with this company. Kudos for having the product in stock. Everyone else was out of stock. Plant arrived in good condition. This was the potted option. Should have been a little fuller and robust for 15.99.

Smaller than the pictures

Definitely smaller than the pictures shown. Ordered six of these with the rest of my plants. Received five plants and one bag of rotten slime. Only one rotten plant out of the twenty seven total, so not the worst thing that could have happened, but it was still a wasted five dollar bill.

I decided to take a risk and order these despite it being a cold winter here. We even had the mail delay because of a snowstorm but these babies were individually packed wrapped up very well.

Great Buy! Highly Recommend

I got a wonderful deal on this plant! Shipping was fast and the bunches were packaged very carefully. As you can see in the pictures, they provide a great portion for each order considering the small amount I paid. The plants arrived healthy and vibrant. A week after planting them, no melting at all and still just as colorful as they arrived. I will definitely be ordering again from Aquarium Plants Factory. IG:@nyctankscape

Super healthy plants, growth took off immediately!

The Staurogyne Repens in in the first row/foreground of my tank. All the plants in my 55g tank are from Aquarium Plants Factory and as you can see, they've all grown SO much since I received them! (For reference, I don't use CO2 and they've still done extremely well!) And maybe I lucked out, but all the plants were/are snail free!

Great!

I got them few weeks ago, and they are doing great with some new leaves and root coming. There was little delay with the shipping just because of Covid, but the package was packed really well, so I lost only few leaves. I'm glad overall with the quality, package, shipping, and the communication they had with me during shipping!

Great quality

I didnt pay enough attention, I was looking for one that wasnt tissue culture due to lack of knowledge. Didnt know if planting them was any different. But turned out this was from tissue culture, but I lucked out. They have all survived, every single little stem. They are beautiful, pretty big already and have survived a pretty big diatom bloom, green spot algae and staghorn algae while finding the balanse.

Excellent Quality

I have a 10 gallon, currently, guppy tank. I previously had some java moss bought from a local fish store that was thriving but had severe algae takeover. I did try to salvage some but with only guppies, no cleaning crew bottoms feeders yet, and with me skipping some maintenance due to being sick, the algae soon OWNED the tank. So I just removed it all, and cleaned up the tank. Upon inspection, my 10 gallon also had a very tiny hairline fracture, so I had to get a new tank and start over. I reshaped the hardscape and decided that I needed some proper plants.

I read reviews about Aquarium Plants Factory (APF) and they were all exceptional. After doing research on what low tech, low light plants can thrive in my 10 gallon, I decided to purchase from this seller: Anacharis, S. Repens, and H. Siamensis 53B. The Anacharis was bought with the intention of being a foreground plant and due to the fact that they grow quickly, suck up nitrates and provide competition to algae growth, buying this was a no brainer. The S. Repens is a beautiful little plant that though slow growing, would provide shelter to my soon to be purchased shrimp and bottom feeders. I hope to have it spread as a carpet in a few months. H. Siamensis 53B was purchased due to ease of care, it’s fast growing nature and the fact that it would be a mid ground piece, or feature plant, that would offer hiding and play areas for my fish while enhancing the look of my aquarium. It’s a 10 gallon so I had to choose wisely as there is very little room to work with, but with the right ‘scaping it is possible.

The plants arrived quickly even with standard shipping; ordered on 4-10 and got it on 4-14. I was provided tracking info and it was precise and accurate. I received a complimentary email from the seller which was a wonderful touch to already wonderful customer service. Plants arrived green, thriving, and healthy.

Two were in sealed packs (S. Repens and Anacharis) and H. Siamensis 53B in a tissue culture cup. Everything was packaged with care. I took each plant out one by one and rinsed in a bucket and separated stems. NO PESTS, NO VISIBLE DISEASE. I examined each stem one by one and everything looked amazing. After rinsing and separating I planted them into the substrate. So far everything is thriving, no ferts added yet, will add if there are any issues after a week.

Due to the small space of the 10 gallon, in the future, for a plant like H. Siamensis 53B, I will most like get a potted plant because the tissue culture had more stems than I expected. The quality is amazing and I was worried about wasting it because I didn’t realize how much was in there. I suggest that since this plant grows fast and can become bushy, to make sure you understand the tissue culture will have many stems compared to buying the potted or packaged plant. Since my other two plants were packaged, I can tell you this seller is pristine and handles their plants with care because after close inspection there were definitely no pests or disease and even when added to my tank, days later, they still look lush and green.

I would definitely keep my business with APF for their excellent customer service and excellent plant quality. Even during the COVID19 quarantine, they have provided speedy and excellent service which is a must in an atmosphere where you may not even be able to go to your local fish store. My local fish store did not have the plants I was looking for and it was dangerous being out with exposed contact, even with protection. Ordering from Aquarium Plants Factory for the first time was the right choice since I received quality products, on time and in good health.

Amazing!!!

My first time ordering from this company and I will ALWAYS order from them now! Everything was packaged neat and super healthy. Absolutely no snails. I ordered a bunch of plants Next Day Air shipping on the week of Christmas (a present to myself) and they even texted me to confirm details which I’ve never had a company go out of their way to do. Super happy with how this tank looks. It’s been about 2 weeks since first planted. The Staurogyne Repens is in the foreground looking awesome!

Plant was disappointing

These plants actually fell apart in a week. Received 3 stems, which I excused, even mentioned 6 . Didn't look at that at first. Ordered several from Canton_48 and Marcus that are thriving in a week. Would have ordered from them.Didn't carry this species. Was looking at other species you carry. That they don't now I'm skeptical
