Alternanthera Rosanervig Mini

Format: Bare-root Plants

Price
$5.99

Want Alternanthera color at nano scale? Rosanervig Mini keeps the pink-to-red foliage and the distinctive pale vein pattern of the full-size plant on leaves small enough for a foreground. It stays low and bushy rather than climbing to the surface.

What You’ll Receive

Sold as Bare-root Plants, Bunched Plants, or Potted Plants:

  • Bare-root plants | Approx. 2-3 loose bare-root stems
  • Bunched plants | Approx. 2-3 rooted stems bundled with foam and plant weight
  • Potted plants | Approx. 2-3 rooted stems in a net pot with rock wool

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Mini Pink Vein Alternanthera
  • Scientific name — Alternanthera reineckii 'Rosanervig Mini'
  • Origin — Cultivated dwarf form; the species is South American
  • Placement — Foreground
  • Shipped size — Approx. 2-3 stems, roughly 1-3 in
  • Mature height — 3–5 in
  • Suits — 5 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Medium

Care

  • Difficulty — Intermediate
  • Light — Medium to high. Under weak light it stretches and loses the pink
  • CO₂ — Recommended, not required
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Required. Root and water column feeder
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Greener and slower grown emersed
  • Propagation — Cuttings — trim and replant stem tops

Grower’s Notes

  • Trim it often. Left alone it loses the compact habit that makes the Mini worth choosing — regular topping is what keeps it low and bushy.
  • The pale veining is reduced chlorophyll, which is why color and light are so tightly linked here. In dim light the veins fade and the leaf greens up.
  • Root tabs matter. It draws from both roots and water column, but the pink deepens noticeably in a nutrient substrate with iron available.
  • Replant the trimmed tops to thicken a patch rather than waiting for bare lower stems to refill.
  • This is the dwarf form. Full-size Rosanervig is a different plant reaching 8-16 inches — a background plant rather than a foreground one.

Lovely

Arrived healthy, vibrant & beautifully packaged in individual pouches & boxed with insulated bubble wrap. I was concerned that ordering during the polar vortex from CA to PA would be a mistake - but everything arrived perfectly using their standard delivery. Recommend.

Beautiful

WOW! This alternanthera reineckii 'Rosanervig' looks so much better than normal alternanthera reineckii. The leaves are just a tad larger, but they have a beautiful veining pattern on them. They are way cooler. Plus, they took to my aquarium much more vigorously than the AR mini did.

All in all a cool plant. 6/5 stars. Would recommend.

These are a beautiful little plant, but they are struggling. Its only been a short time in the tank. I believe they will flourish in a few more weeks.

Good healthy hardy plants

Definitely grateful I got these as insurance — they’re a lot more adaptable than Reineckii, which I also got and are melting more. But the rosanervig? Thriving! It wasn’t bothered in the least and hasn’t melted even in two weeks. Definitely suggest it if you’re looking for a hardier alternative.

Beautiful plants

I got 3 for the price of 2. All 3 were pristine. Even after a few days, minimum loss of leaves while transitioning. I highly recommend.

After a 6 day shipping the plants looks roughed up. Looked flat and broken. I don't believe they will survive. Time will tell.

Woot!

Plants came quickly and were wrapped really well for the cold weather! Plants were in great condition!!

Pleased

I did not think much of the plants when they arrived. They were small, gnarly looking things with only about 1/2 inch of roots. It took plant anchors and patience to get them to stay in the ground. However, now that they have been in the gravel for a few days they are upright, growing taller and will make an attractive band of color across my little tank.

Grow like weeds

Soon after planting they’ve spread and and seem to be growing quickly. Very bright, healthy and would definitely recommend. I’ve had trouble with some live plants, possibly due to lighting, but all four different types of plants I’ve ordered from this site have done well.

Becoming my favorite plant

Bought a few of these on a whim for color and they are quickly becoming a favorite. Ordering more for another tank I'm replanting.

Great value!

I was able to break up each bunch into ~3-4 stems. The colors on these are super vibrant and I'm really looking forward to them maturing in my tanks. Great color pop in the tanks!

Why does your grow out of Alternanthera Rosanervig 'Mini', look to be cultured non emersed or submerged?

Aquarium Plants Factory

Good eye! Alternanthera Rosanervig Mini can be grown emersed (out of water), and plants grown this way tend to look greener and grow a bit slower/sturdier before shipping - that's likely what you're noticing. Once submerged in your tank under good light and CO2, it typically transitions to its more intense pink-red coloration over the following weeks.

S
Shawn V.

why do these always die out on me? the leaves fall off and they separate at the stem. I have good light, co2 and ferts

Aquarium Plants Factory

Alternanthera reineckii/rosanervig types are known to be a bit more demanding stem plants - when they melt or separate at the stem nodes, it's usually a sign of one of a few things: not quite enough light intensity (they're a higher-light plant despite already having decent light), a nutrient imbalance (they're heavy root and column feeders, especially of potassium and micros), or simply old lower stems naturally dying back once the plant gets leggy, which is normal and can be fixed by replanting the healthy tops. Since you already have good light, CO2 and ferts, it may be worth double-checking your light intensity/duration and dosing consistency, and try replanting fresh tops from the healthy sections regularly rather than expecting the original stems to last indefinitely - that's just how these plants naturally grow.
