Dwarf Baby Tears Vitro Culture® with dense, bright green micro leaves ideal for aquarium carpet planting

Dwarf Baby Tears Vitro Culture

Pack: 1 BAG

Price
$10.99

The smallest carpeting plant in general aquarium cultivation, with round leaves only a few millimeters across. Grown in sterile Vitro Culture®, so it arrives free of snails, algae spores and hitchhiking pests.

What You’ll Receive

Select your preferred pack size: 1 BAG, 10 BAGS, or 20 BAGS of our sterile Vitro Culture®.
Each sealed 4-inch bag yields approximately 2–3 delicate HC clump plantlets, ready to carpet your aquascape.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Dwarf Baby Tears, HC Cuba
  • Scientific nameMicranthemum callitrichoides 'Cuba'
  • Also known asHemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba' (the older name, still in wide use), HC Cuba, HC
  • Origin — Cuba
  • Placement — Foreground carpet
  • Shipped size — Approx. 2-3 tissue-cultured clumps, roughly 1 inch
  • Mature height — 1–2 in
  • Suits — 5 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Fast, once established

Care

  • Difficulty — Advanced
  • Light — High. Light must reach the substrate, not just the surface
  • CO₂ — Required
  • Water — 68–78°F · pH 6.0–7.0. Note the ceiling — HC struggles in warm tanks
  • Substrate — Required. Fine nutrient-rich soil
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Runners and stolons

Grower’s Notes

  • Pressurized CO₂ is not optional. Liquid carbon will keep HC alive; it will not carpet.
  • Temperature is the overlooked failure. HC does poorly above about 78°F. In a warm tank it will not hold — use Monte Carlo instead.
  • Plant small portions of five to eight leaves about an inch apart, pushed into fine aquasoil at an angle. The root system is microscopic and lifts easily in current.
  • Trim once the carpet reaches roughly an inch. An untrimmed mat shades its own base, the lower layer dies back, and the sheet lifts off the substrate.
  • Rinse the nutrient gel from the roots before planting. Some melt in the first days is normal as submersed leaves replace the emersed growth formed in culture.

Want to go deeper? Read our carpet plant comparison: Dwarf Baby Tears vs Monte Carlo vs Dwarf Hairgrass.

Notes

  • Photos are for reference; color, density and growth habit vary with lighting, CO₂ and nutrients.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Okay so I was debating with myself for many days whether I wanted to go with monte carlo or d.b.t but I said what the hey! I want to go all out and I'm glad I did! These plants came in great condition (what you'd want esp from tissue culture). They are vibrant and so darn cute! Holding up well and ready for some CO2 lol. Shipped fast and arrived in my mailbox. Decent portion!

Good quality and healthy amount

The Baby Tears came in very healthy and you receive a good amount in each cup. It's been a week in the tank and it still looks very healthy and looks to be taking off. I would definitely order baby tears from APF again.

BEAUTIFUL!

I haven't put this in my tank yet, but the plants I got are gorgeous! Looks exactly like the photo. I'm so happy with how vibrant and beautiful the several cups of baby tears I got are! I've been keeping them alive in the cups while I work on tank setup, and it's been easy going, so hopefully they'll thrive in the setup I have planned.

Perfect

I love the small leaves on this plant. I purchased these for a Bonsai tree project and they came in perfect and green. Doing a dry start method with them until I'm ready to flood my tank and then I will transfer them to the Bonsai tree. Cant wait they look amazing. Thank you for these perfect plants.

Thank you

Tristan has been fantastic. Thank you for reaching out after every order as many have been placed recently. All plants I received were alive green and good in quantity. Didn't need to trim or remove any dead pieces as none of the plants had anything that required trimming.

Came in super lush, green and looks very healthy

Came in super lush, green and looks very healthy. Definitely worth the price compared to getting it normally due to the amount you get. Makes it very easy to start a carpet by planting dense at the start.

Kristen

They all came in a reasonable time. All were packaged very neatly and all alive and thriving in my tank. They fit along with the other plants very well and my fish live them.

Never Received

Only giving this a 3 star because I was provided tracking and decently quick shipping. Problem is I never received the products I purchased, three different plants showed “delivered” with the provided USPS tracking number. Seller is not at fault but had to repurchase plants as seller stated it was a problem with USPS. I was hoping the seller would be able help me out in tracking them down within USPS or possibly some credit towards buying another set of plants but due to the circumstances, which the seller is not at fault, they could not.

Not for beginners

Super new to the world of planting and fishes and all that.. and I should have read. This specific plant needs CO2. And guess what? I didn’t have it. And no matter how much I planted it deep… forget it… it kept floating to the top. It eventually died. And it was a WASTE of money. Sooo did not work for me.

Jared

Arrived verry quickly and in perfect shape. Very healthy vitro plants in insulated wrap was essential with the heat through shipping. Not one discolored leaf. The best i have ever received.
