Bacopa Australis

Emersed Growth: Fresh-cut Plants

Price
$6.99

Want bright green in a tank full of dark plants? Bacopa australis is one of the lightest greens available — small rounded leaves in tight pairs up a fast, bushy stem. It reads almost lime against Anubias and Crypts, which is what makes it useful.

What You’ll Receive

Elevate your aquascape with our premium, convenient formats:

  • Fresh Cut Plants: ~6+ loose, fresh-cut stems (no roots) for flexible layouts
  • Fresh Cut Bunched: ~6+ fresh-cut stems (no roots), bundled with foam + plant weight for easy placement
  • Fresh Cut Potted: ~6+ fresh-cut stems (no roots) potted in a net pot with rockwool for stability and quick start

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Southern Bacopa
  • Scientific nameBacopa australis
  • Also known asBacopa rotundifolia
  • Origin — Southern Brazil and Argentina
  • Placement — Midground to background
  • Shipped size — Approx. 6+ fresh-cut stems, roughly 3-6 in
  • Mature height — 6–12 in
  • Suits — 10 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Medium

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Medium. Stronger light keeps it compact and bushy
  • CO₂ — Recommended, not required
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5. Tolerates a very wide range of hardness
  • Substrate — Required. Root and water column feeder
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Thrives emersed in humid setups
  • Propagation — Cuttings — trim and replant stem tops

Grower’s Notes

  • Trimming decides its role. Topped hard and often it stays low enough for a foreground; left alone it reaches a foot and works as background. The same stems can do either job.
  • It is unusually tolerant of water chemistry — soft or hard, acidic or alkaline. If your tap water has defeated other stem plants, this is a good one to try.
  • Every cut branches the stem, so regular topping is what turns a few stems into a dense bush.
  • Replant the trimmed tops rather than keeping bare lower stems.
  • Also available as sterile Bacopa Australis Vitro Culture.

Want to go deeper? Read our complete Bacopa Care Guide.

Notes

  • Photos are for reference; leaf size and colour vary with lighting and nutrients. Some melt during the transition to submersed growth is normal.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

looking good!

this is my first time ordering from apf, and i will say I'm quite pleased! i did only order one quantity of each plant (bacopa australis, dwarf sagittaria, hygrophila siamensis) so i knew the coverage would be sparse. but i was able to spread them out more than i expected to; especially the dwarf sag, and they all look pretty healthy for having been through shipping, so i'm hopeful that i'll be able to propagate them soon enough easily!

Amazing!

This is my first ever plant order and I couldn’t be happier. Plants shipped in around 4 days, packaging was very secure. Package did arrive in an envelope in my mailbox though so do watch out for that! They’re healthy, growing fast and beautifully. I highly recommend!

Plentiful and fresh

I'm new to the hobby and these plants have made it easy for me so far! A few are experiencing some melt, particularly the Bacopa salzmanni, but the Bacopa Serrata is already growing! The java ferns were easy to separate and glue into place, and those still look healthy and vibrant after a week in the tank. Everything was actively moist when I unpacked it, so it was all very fresh. Portions were generous, not tangled up in each other, and labelled so that I could tell them apart easily. I wouldn't have minded a snail or two, but it's noteworthy that I have seen no pests or hitch-hikers yet! All in all, I'm quite happy thus far :)
