Fresh-cut Plants

Bacopa Australis, also known as Bacopa Rotundifolia, is a highly sought-after aquatic plant that enhances the beauty of any aquarium. With its lush, bright green foliage and easy-to-care-for nature, Bacopa Australis is perfect for aquarists of all experience levels. This versatile plant not only adds visual appeal but also contributes to the overall health of your aquatic environment.

When grown submerged under intense lighting, Bacopa Australis may develop pink or reddish hues. When grown emersed, it quickly forms a marsh-like carpet, spreading across garden ponds. Throughout the seasons, Bacopa Australis produces numerous charming light-blue flowers.

Key Features of Bacopa Australis

  1. Bright Green Foliage: Bacopa Australis features round, bright green leaves that grow in pairs along the stem. Its vibrant color adds a refreshing look to your aquarium, making it an excellent choice for creating a lush, green backdrop.

  2. Easy to Grow: This plant is known for its hardiness and adaptability. Bacopa Australis thrives in a wide range of water conditions, making it suitable for both beginners and seasoned aquarists.

  3. Versatile Placement: Ideal for midground or background placement, Bacopa Australis adds depth and texture to your aquascape. Its bushy growth habit provides excellent cover for fish and invertebrates.

  4. Improves Water Quality: Like other aquatic plants, Bacopa Australis helps maintain a healthy aquarium environment by absorbing excess nutrients and oxygenating the water. This process reduces algae growth and promotes a balanced ecosystem.

  5. Propagation: Bacopa Australis is easily propagated through stem cuttings. Simply trim a healthy stem and plant it in the substrate. The cuttings will quickly develop roots and continue to grow, allowing you to expand your aquatic garden effortlessly.

Care Requirements for Bacopa Australis

  • Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is essential for Bacopa Australis to thrive. Adequate lighting ensures vibrant leaf color and healthy growth.
  • Water Conditions: This plant prefers temperatures between 68-82°F (20-28°C) and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. It can adapt to both soft and moderately hard water.
  • Substrate: While Bacopa Australis can grow in various substrates, a nutrient-rich substrate will enhance its growth and overall health.
  • Fertilization: Regular fertilization with a balanced aquarium fertilizer supports robust growth and prevents nutrient deficiencies. Supplementing with CO2 can further enhance its development, although it is not strictly necessary.

Benefits of Adding Bacopa Australis to Your Aquarium

  • Aesthetic Appeal: The bright green, round leaves of Bacopa Australis create a lush, natural look in your aquarium, enhancing the visual appeal of your aquascape.
  • Habitat Enrichment: Provides natural hiding spots and reduces stress for fish and invertebrates, promoting a more balanced and dynamic ecosystem.
  • Water Quality Improvement: Helps maintain optimal water conditions by oxygenating the water and absorbing excess nutrients, reducing the risk of algae outbreaks.

Bacopa Australis is a must-have for any aquarist looking to create a vibrant and healthy underwater environment. Its unique appearance, combined with its ease of care, makes it a standout choice for enhancing the beauty and ecological balance of any aquarium.

      looking good!

this is my first time ordering from apf, and i will say I'm quite pleased! i did only order one quantity of each plant (bacopa australis, dwarf sagittaria, hygrophila siamensis) so i knew the coverage would be sparse. but i was able to spread them out more than i expected to; especially the dwarf sag, and they all look pretty healthy for having been through shipping, so i'm hopeful that i'll be able to propagate them soon enough easily!
