Bucephalandra Red Phantom

Format: Rooted Potted

Price
$14.99

Red Phantom comes from the Lamandau region of Borneo. Grown above water it shows light to olive green leaves on pink-red stems; the stem color is the point of the variety, and it holds once the plant converts to submersed growth.

What You'll Receive

  • Sold as tiny, small Bare-root plants or Potted plants with 8 plus leaf
  • Color ranges from light green, olive green with pink, red stem
  • Great for nano planted tanks, terrariums, and aquariums
  • Rare & Sustainable farm-growth Bucephalandra species
  • Young plants grow in a controlled laboratory environment

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Red Phantom Buce
  • Scientific name — Bucephalandra sp. 'Red Phantom'
  • Also known as — Bucep Red Phantom, Buce Red Phantom
  • Origin — Lamandau, Borneo
  • Placement — Foreground to midground, attached to hardscape
  • Mature height — 2-4 inches
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium. Too much light brings algae the plant is too slow to outgrow.
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — None needed. Epiphyte; feeds from the water column.
  • Growth habit — Amphibious rhizome creeper; grows submersed or emersed
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • The color is in the stem, not the leaf. Most Buce is bought for leaf tone; Red Phantom's appeal is the pink-red petiole under a green leaf. That contrast only shows at close range, so place it at the front of the scape.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Tie or glue it to wood or rock and leave it exposed; buried rhizomes rot.
  • Farm-raised, not wild-collected. All the Bucephalandra we carry is farm-grown, and much of it is raised from tissue culture rather than collected from Borneo.
  • Emersed-grown plants shed some leaves as they convert to submersed growth. Give it several weeks before judging the color.
  • Give it flow. Bucephalandra are rheophytes from fast Borneo streams, and moderate current keeps the leaves clean of debris and algae.

Pretty little plants!

My plants arrived about one month ago, and are still alive, though there was a little melting at first. But they are very pretty little plants. I like the contrast between the red stems and green leaves. I hope they stay alive, as I am teaching myself the hobby on a tiny budget and it stinks when I loose plants!

Hi there, the Bare-root option is for one plant with 8+ leaves - it's a single specimen, not a multi-pack. That particular variant is currently out of stock, but we do have the Potted version available if you'd like to grab one now (check the product page for current pricing and availability).
