Bucephalandra Sanggau Green Jade

Three colors on one plant. Bucephalandra sp. 'Sanggau Green Jade' carries small pointed leaves mixing dark and light green above pink-red stems — a tricolor effect uncommon in a genus usually sold on a single deep tone. Collected from the Sanggau Regency of West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Grower’s Notes

• The pink stems are the detail worth placing for. The leaf color reads from across the tank; the pink-red stems only show up close. Put it at the front of a piece of wood rather than deep in the scape.
• Farm-raised, not wild-collected. All the Bucephalandra we carry is farm-grown, and much of it is raised from tissue culture rather than collected from Borneo.
• Never bury the rhizome. Glue or tie it to rock or wood; buried rhizomes rot.
• Emersed-grown plants change color as they convert to submerged growth — give it several weeks before judging.
• Growth is measured in months, which is why Buce holds its shape for years without trimming.
