Bucephalandra Silver Eagle | Small Vitro Culture Cup

Price
$12.99

Silver-toned leaves on a compact rhizome. Bucephalandra sp. 'Silver Eagle' is one of the many named forms in a genus of more than thirty species, most of them from Borneo, where they grow as dense mats over rock in fast-moving streams. Leaf color across the genus runs dark blue to green, often with white, yellow or red tinges and spotting on the underside.

What You'll Receive

  • Sold as a small in vitro, tissue culture cup
  • Small cup size: approx. 1.7" x 1.7"
  • Tissue Culture Technology | 100% Free from Snail, Algae, Pathogen, and Bacteria plus Extended Shelf Life on all in Vitro Plants.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Silver Eagle Buce
  • Scientific name — Bucephalandra sp. 'Silver Eagle'
  • Family — Araceae
  • Origin — Borneo
  • Type — Rheophyte / epiphyte
  • Placement — Foreground to midground, attached to stone, rock or driftwood
  • Growth rate — Slow to medium

Care

  • Difficulty — Intermediate
  • Light — Low to high
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Substrate — Not required. Attach to hardscape — never bury the rhizome
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • It grows on rock, not in substrate. In the wild Bucephalandra clings to stone in fast-flowing streams, and the same applies in a tank — tie or glue the rhizome to hardscape and leave it exposed. Buried, it rots.
  • Color varies with conditions more than with the cultivar name. Nutrients, CO₂, pH, light and hardness all shift how a Buce presents, so the same plant looks different in two tanks.
  • Tolerates a wide light range, which makes it more forgiving than most Buce as a first attempt at the genus.
  • Rinse the gel off thoroughly before attaching. Residue fouls at the rhizome.
  • Slow to medium growth. It will not fill a scape quickly — buy roughly the quantity you want.
  • Farm-raised, not wild-collected. All the Bucephalandra we carry is farm-grown, and much of it is raised from tissue culture rather than collected from Borneo.

Notes

  • Pictures are not the actual plants you will receive, but a sample representation. Unless specific, we don't guarantee aquatic plants will be free of pests, pesticides, grow emerged, or submerge.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Great plants.

Plants were green and happy upon arrival. A few have melted some but, are coming back. Would have loved some care instructions for transitioning them. I am new to tissue culture.
