Cabomba Furcata

Submerged Growth: Fresh-cut Plants

Price
$19.99

Fine, feathery whorls in pink to reddish-purple — the most delicate texture of any red stem plant, and the reason it's worth the trouble. It is genuinely demanding: high light and pressurized CO₂ are what keep it from unravelling.

What You’ll Receive

  • Sold as loose Fresh-cut plants, Bunched plants, or Potted plants
  • Fresh-cut plants: Approx. 6 stems, loose fresh-cut stems without root
  • Bunched plants: Approx. 6 fresh-cut stems without root, bundled with foam, and lead weight
  • Potted plants: Approx. 6 fresh-cut stems without root, potted with net pot and rockwool

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Red Cabomba, Fanwort
  • Scientific name — Cabomba furcata
  • Placement — Midground to background
  • Mature height — 8–16 in
  • Growth rate — Fast

Care

  • Difficulty — Advanced
  • Light — High
  • CO₂ — Required
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–6.8
  • Feeding — Water column
  • Propagation — Cuttings

Grower’s Notes

  • This is the least forgiving red stem in common cultivation. Without strong light and pressurized CO₂ the whorls thin, the stems go bare from the bottom, and it falls apart within weeks.
  • It wants soft, acidic water. Above pH 7 it struggles regardless of how good the light and CO₂ are.
  • Plant stems individually, an inch or so apart. Bunched together they shade each other and rot in the middle.
  • Stable conditions matter more than rich ones. It sheds whorls after water changes that swing temperature or chemistry sharply.

Notes

  • Photos are for reference; colour and density vary considerably with lighting, CO₂ and water chemistry.
  • Some aquatic plants are restricted in certain U.S. states — check before ordering, and never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Customers praised these vibrant aquarium plants for arriving healthy with "stunning colors" and "reddish-pink hues." Most found them fast-growing and well-packaged. However, some experienced shipping melting issues, with plants arriving stressed or damaged. A few noted delicate needle-like leaves break easily and anchoring can be challenging. Best suited for high-tech tanks with proper lighting and substrate.

  • The reddish-pink hues are absolutely beautiful. It's definitely the highlight of my aquascape.
  • It has doubled in size, and the color is brilliant red just as desired.
  • I'm really impressed how healthy the plant came in. It's growing pretty quick!

Great plants

1st time ordering online plants. I am alway skeptical of the delivery services ability to keep time. Plants were delivered a day before expected and each bunch of plants was individually packaged.

Gorgeous purple furcata

Furcata/paiuhyensis turns the most gorgeous shade of purple/magenta in my tank. APF sent several stems per order and I did the b2g2 so I have tons, but my fish love to hide and play in it, so I’m beyond pleased.

The attached pic shows the plant after one week in my tank. I fertilize heavily and this is in a high tech tank.

The plants came in, they look good, some red on it, im running it under 2 full spectrum led lights, eco complete, red clay in the substrate, co2. I've had it for about a week, im starting to see more red in the plant. Good buy if you have a high tech tank

Beautiful Hues

Divided the Red Cabomba into two other tanks. This one, the picture and video (with sound/music enhancements) don't quite do it justice. The Anacharis to the left of the Red Cabomba and the Green Cabomba in the back are also from Aquarium Plants Factory.

Alive but lots of shedding

The plants I received were healthy and alive upon arrival, but when I began to place them in my tank, there were lots and lots of shedding leaves. This wasn't too huge of a problem though as they are still living and cleaning up the shed leaves wasn't too hard of a chore. The plants still look full near the top, and I'm sure they will continue to regrow the lost leaves with time :)

Beautiful plant!

I'm really impressed how healthy the plant came in. It's been a week in my tank and i would say it's growing pretty quick, at first the top most part of the plant was a pale violet but a couple days later it was turning red. It's just a matter of time. I'm really happy with my purchase, my shrimp are really happy with the plant too! Highly recommend this plant! Shipping was super fast and package was really taken care of! Impeccable customer service Aquarium plants factory!

Great

Really like this plant, I will say please put in separate water before putting in your tank, little branches and fingers will fill up your tank if you don't. Learning curve after the first plant was put in the tank. Overall happy with my purchase. I'll be ordering more when I can finally get my nitrite and nitrate under control.

Some plants melted due to ship time

Plants took a few days to get to me. When I got them, half were melted/dead.

My aquarium is going through an ich issue so I didn’t think to take photos.

Colorful plant

The Cabomba arrived as expected. A little stressed out, but as soon as I got it on the tank it started to perk up. It has been about 2 weeks now and I have had to trim off branches and replant them as new stems. It has doubled in size, and the color is brilliant red just as desired. Thanks

Excellent plant

Came as advertised. Well packaged. Healthy, I'd buy from this business again.

Plants are in excellent condition

These look beautiful in other reviewers' photographs and I get the sense that the color would become even brighter in strong sunlight. I purchased these in error---not paying attention to the fact that these need a substate, which I do not have. However, I put some of them in water to see if they might grow. I do not think it will work, but it looks very good floating with hornwort for what might be a very short period of time.

Good color, in great shape for a plant family prone to shipping melt, and nice, dense growth.

Looks good

It looks good and mostly packaged well. I think it should have had a heat pack in the packaging since it did ship in winter. I hope the plant survives.

As advertised

Marissa

I don’t recognize this from any of the wilted items that arrived. Ordered potted plants rather that cuttings, but most fell apart during transit and were DOA. No response from customer service.

D
Davis

Beautiful plant but hard to anchor unless I find cracks or crevices for it to be held. When it loses anchor and floats to the top the leaves show its true colors from the light. The needle like leaves are easily broken apart so I have to be extra gentle.
