Cryptocoryne Petchii Vitro Culture

Format: PACKAGING MAY VARY! TISSUE CULTURE PLANTS MAY BE GROW IN A VITRO BAG OR CUP

Price
$12.99

Narrow, slightly hammered leaves in red-brown on a neat compact rosette. Cryptocoryne petchii is a Sri Lankan crypt that tolerates warm water better than most — it grows in streams running above 30°C in the wild, which makes it a safer choice for a discus or betta tank. This is the sterile tissue culture format.

Grower's Notes

  • It takes heat that other crypts resent. Petchii grows in streams above 30°C in Sri Lanka. If you keep discus, or a betta tank run warm, this is one of the few crypts that will not sulk at the top of its range.
  • Crypt melt is expected and is not failure. Tissue culture plantlets shed their emersed leaves as they convert to submersed growth. Leave the roots undisturbed — new leaves come from the crown within three to six weeks.
  • Plant the crown at substrate level. Bury the roots and leave the growing point exposed. A buried crown rots from the center.
  • Feed the roots. Crypts take almost everything from the substrate. Root tabs or aquasoil produce the hammered, well-colored leaves; inert sand with liquid dosing gives short pale ones.
  • Stop moving it. Every replant restarts the melt cycle. Choose the position before planting and let the runners fill in around it.

Beautiful

Lovely culture cup, arrived promptly and in perfect health. Lots of thick clumps that can be divided or left as mini-mother plants. Recommend.

I really like these cultures.

I really like these cultures. I'm against snails taking over the whole tank and these work for that.

How big do they get?

Aquarium Plants Factory

Hi Jack! Cryptocoryne petchii is a moderate-sized crypt - it typically reaches about 4-8 inches (10-20cm) tall once established, with some specimens growing a bit larger under good lighting and nutrient-rich substrate. It's a great low-to-midground plant and, like most crypts, may melt back after planting before settling in and growing to its full size. Let us know if you have any other questions!
