Cryptocoryne undulata 'Broad Leaf' trades the narrow, ribbon-like leaves of standard undulata for wider blades with the same wavy margin. It is one of the easier crypts — slow, undemanding, and content in low light once its roots are down.

• Difficulty — Beginner
• Light — Low to medium. Higher light brings out bronze tones in the leaf but also invites algae on the slow-growing blades.

• Substrate — Nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs. This is a root feeder.

Grower's Notes

• Expect crypt melt, then leave it alone. Leaves may dissolve in the first two weeks as the plant converts to your water. The root crown is unharmed and pushes new growth — do not pull it out.
• Plant with the crown at substrate level. Burying the crown causes rot; planting too shallow lets the plant float free.
• It spreads by runners into a low cluster rather than a single specimen. Give it a few inches of clear space and let it fill in.
• Root tabs matter more than water-column dosing here. Feeding happens almost entirely through the roots.
• Once established it resents being moved. Every relocation restarts the melt cycle, so pick the spot before planting.
