Echinodorus Chocolate Marble

A sword with markings, not just color. Echinodorus 'Chocolate Marble' carries a heavy blotched pattern across its leaves — irregular dark mottling on green, closer to camouflage than to the even tones most swords show. It grows to full sword size, so it needs a tank with room.

Grower's Notes

• Root tabs are the whole game with swords. Chocolate Marble takes almost everything it needs from the substrate. In inert gravel with liquid dosing alone it stalls and the marbling fades — which people mistake for a difficult plant rather than a hungry one.
• Marbling can fade. Like other patterned swords it may push plainer leaves under weak light or thin feeding. Steady light plus root feeding is what keeps the pattern.
• Plant the crown at substrate level, never below — buried crowns rot.
• Expect the first leaves to melt as it converts from emersed nursery growth. The second flush shows the real pattern.
• It propagates from flower stalks, not runners. Plantlets form along a mature inflorescence; let each root, then cut it free and plant it separately.
