Pink Amazon Sword

Pink veins on a sword plant. Echinodorus 'Pink Princess' — sold here as Pink Amazon Sword — pushes long narrow leaves marked with prominent pink veining, deepening toward rose under stronger light and heavier feeding. Like every sword it lives on what is in the substrate: give it aquasoil or root tabs and it colors; give it plain gravel and it stays green.

Care

• Difficulty — Intermediate
• Light — Medium to high. Intensity decides whether the veining reads pink or barely at all.
• CO₂ — Recommended. It holds color and form far better with it.

Grower's Notes

• Root tabs decide whether you get pink. This is a heavy root feeder. In inert gravel with liquid dosing alone it survives but stays green — people then assume the plant was mislabeled. Aquasoil or root tabs under the crown is the whole difference.
• Plant the crown at substrate level, never below. Buried crowns rot from the center.
• Expect the first leaves to melt as it converts from emersed nursery growth. The second flush is the one with the pink veining.
• It propagates from floral stalks, not runners. A settled plant sends up an inflorescence carrying plantlets; let each root, cut it free, and plant it separately.
• Give it space. Broad leaves shade a wider area than the height suggests.
