Echinodorus Yellow Sun

Format: Bare-root Plants

Price

Most swords are green. 'Yellow Sun' comes through yellow-green, sometimes with orange or light red at the edges under stronger light — heart-shaped leaves that read as a warm patch rather than another block of dark foliage.

  • Growth rate — Medium

Care

  • Difficulty — Intermediate
  • Light — Medium to high
  • CO₂ — Recommended
  • Water — 68-82°F, pH 6.5-7.5
  • Substrate — Required. Heavy root feeder — nutrient-rich soil or root tabs
  • Growth habit — Amphibious rosette
  • Propagation — Adventitious plantlets on flower stalks

Grower's Notes

  • Light decides whether it is yellow or just green. Under medium light the leaves lean pale green; stronger light brings out the golden tone and the orange-red edging. This is the one variable worth adjusting if the color disappoints.
  • Root tabs are not optional. Swords take almost everything from the substrate. In inert gravel with liquid dosing alone the yellow washes out to a sickly pale green, which is easy to mistake for a deficiency in the water column.
  • Never bury the crown. Cover the roots and leave the growing point at substrate level. A buried crown rots from the center and does not recover.
  • It propagates from flower stalks, not runners. A mature plant sends up an inflorescence carrying plantlets along its length; let each root and grow three or four leaves before separating it.
  • Use it against green, not against red. Yellow-green next to red plants muddies both. Set against dark green foliage or wood it does what it is bought for.

Can't wait for it to mature

Very happy! I ordered one of these and received two. The color is so pretty and bright, can't even describe it. Will definitely add contrast in my mostly dark green/red tank. Little more delicate leaves than I would have expected for the size and shape of them. One leaf had a couple brown spots. The rest of the plant looked great. Very healthy and no pests. Wish u had bought another one so I could have gotten 3. Will definitely order again for my next tank setup. The only place I will buy plants from. I have never lost a plant from this company though some minimal transition melting does occur sometimes.

Beautiful plant!

I love this plant!!! I am not usually a huge fan of sword plants: they often seem kind of big static/not dynamic, but this little plant is so pretty with the unique leaf shape and lovely light green color, not to mention the reddish accents (though these may disappear over time depending on lighting/fertilizing/water chemistry). If my goldfish don't eat it, I think I'll get a few more of these to add some variety to my tank. It is a small plant to start (mine has about 5" of plant above the substrate), but I bet it will look majestic when it gets bigger.

Unique looking plant. Arrived a little sad looking but after a few days in the tank I am already seeing new growth. Very excited to see how this grows out.

Looks good

Echinodorus Yellow Sun arrived with few brown leaves but in a few days in the fish tank it looks better and gives a new leave already. I'm pleased with it. Thanks!
