Helanthium bolivianum 'Vesuvius', formerly known as Echinodorus 'Vesuvius', is a captivating sword plant cultivar selected from a mutation of H. bolivianum 'Angustifolius' at the renowned Oriental nursery in Singapore. Since its commercial introduction in 2006, this unique species has become a standout favorite for its eye-catching spiral leaves and elegant rosette structure. Known by hobbyists as the “Corkscrew Sword,” it brings motion, texture, and contrast to aquascapes.
At Aquarium Plants Factory, we grow this plant in its emersed form. Emersed leaves are broader, shorter, and often less twisted—but once submerged in an aquarium, the transformation begins: long, narrow (approximately 4 mm wide), tightly spiraled leaves emerge in a lush rosette, reaching up to 25 cm in height in aquariums. These linear, ribbon-like leaves give a refined, Vallisneria-like appearance with a twist—literally.
