Hydrocotyle Tripartita Mini

Format: Fresh-cut Potted

Price
$14.99

Half the leaf, half the height. Hydrocotyle tripartita 'Mini' is a dwarf form of the standard clover pennywort — same three-lobed leaves and fast creeping runners, but small enough to stay flat at 1–2 inches instead of climbing. In a nano tank, that difference is what makes it a carpet rather than a shrub.

  • Fresh-cut plants | loose, small fresh-cut portion

  • Placement — Foreground
  • Mature height — 1–2 in
  • Growth rate — Fast

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Medium to high. Light is what keeps it flat rather than climbing
  • CO₂ — Recommended
  • Water — 68–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Required. Nutrient substrate or root tabs
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Runners — cut and replant sections

Grower’s Notes

  • Buy Mini for nano tanks, standard for everything else. Full-size Hydrocotyle tripartita reaches 3–4 inches and looks oversized in a small aquarium. The Mini form holds the scale.
  • Light decides carpet or climber. Weak light makes the runners stretch upward, and it stops being a carpet — a lighting problem, not a plant problem.
  • It grows fast. Trim runners every few weeks or it crosses into neighboring plants.
  • Pin fresh cuttings down with weights or tweezers until roots grab; loose sections float free.
  • Every cutting with a node will root, so one portion becomes a carpet in a couple of months.

Notes

  • Pictures are not the actual plants you will receive, but a sample representation. Unless specific, we don't guarantee aquatic plants will be free of pests, and pesticides, grow emerged, or submerge.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Amazingly Small Plant

I could tell it was a small plant from the pictures but it did not hit me until I saw it with my own eyes. The entire amount that I received, which was a generous portion, sat comfortably within the confines of Hydrocotyle Leucocephala! And it wasn't even the biggest leaf! Very pleased with the health, quality and quantity. Thank you!

Low-tech nano tank foreground fill

received tissue culture ~3 weeks ago; one portion was enough to separate into 5 small clumps to distribute amid hardscape in 5gal nano tank. 0 melt, measurable growth w/o CO2. trimmed at week ~3.5 to keep it bushy, planted some of the trimmings (some with roots, some without) to see how they do, and am letting other trimmings stay at the surface as floaters for now. If they develop roots, will plant these as well or give away. Very pleased with this cute, healthy little plant! parameters are shifting as i cycle, but water is soft, pH 6.4-7; light moderate to high 6 hrs/day, low 2 hrs/day.
