Round leaves held up like small umbrellas. Hydrocotyle verticillata joins each leaf to its stalk at the center rather than the edge, so the foliage stands upright on thin stems instead of trailing flat — a shape nothing else in a planted tank produces. This is the sterile tissue culture version.

Grower's Notes

• Bare stalks with few leaves means not enough light. Under weak lighting the stems stretch upward and the umbrella leaves thin out. Raise the intensity or move it forward rather than dosing more fertilizer.
• Separate the culture into small clusters. Rinse the gel off and plant a few plantlets per spot, an inch apart. Runners close the gaps far faster than one clump grows outward.
• Trim at the substrate to hold a boundary. Runners spread quickly and will cross into whatever is planted next to it. A trim every few weeks keeps the patch where you put it.
• Every node roots. Cut sections anywhere and pin them down with plant weights until they anchor. It is one of the easiest plants in the catalog to multiply.
• The upright leaf on a central stalk is the identifying feature — useful for telling this apart from the flat-creeping Hydrocotyle tripartita, which is a different plant entirely.
