Grower's Notes

• The color sits on the top leaves. Cherry pink develops on new growth nearest the light; lower leaves stay green. Trimming and replanting the tops is what keeps a stand looking red rather than green with a red fringe.
• Iron, not light alone. Under medium light with steady micronutrient dosing the tops flush cherry. Strong light without iron gives you a fast green Hygrophila instead.
• It is fast, so plan on trimming. Ten to twenty inches arrives quickly. Topping the stems and replanting the cuttings keeps the group at the height you want and doubles your plant count each time.
• Beginner difficulty is genuine here. Unlike most red plants this is a hardy Hygrophila underneath. It will grow in a low-tech tank — you simply get less color without dosing.
• Plant the stems apart. Bunched stems rot where the foam and weight sit. Separate them and space each half an inch apart so light reaches the lower nodes.
