Hygrophila lancea 'Araguaia'

Emersed Growth: Fresh Cut Plants

Price
$12.99

Hygrophila lancea 'Araguaia' does not behave like the rest of its genus. Instead of racing to the surface it stays low and branches sideways, building compact bushes of narrow, needle-shaped leaves in bronze, brown and deep red. It is the rare Hygrophila you plant in the middle of a tank rather than behind everything.

What You'll Receive

Fresh, healthy Hygrophila lancea 'Araguaia' cultivated and prepared by Aquarium Plants Factory®, available in convenient planting formats:

  • Fresh Cut Plants: Approximately 6 loose, fresh-cut stems without roots.
  • Fresh Cut Bunched: Approximately 6 stems bundled with foam and a plant weight for easy placement.
  • Fresh Cut Potted: About 6 stems potted securely in a net pot with rockwool for stability and easy planting.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Araguaia Hygrophila
  • Scientific nameHygrophila lancea 'Araguaia'
  • Also known as — Hygrophila Araguaia, Hygrophila 'Chai' relative
  • Origin — Collected from the Araguaia river basin, Brazil; the species itself is native to East Asia
  • Placement — Midground
  • Mature height — 4-10 inches
  • Growth rate — Medium

Care

  • Difficulty — Intermediate
  • Light — Medium
  • CO₂ — Recommended
  • Water — 68-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — Nutrient-rich soil or root tabs, plus water column dosing
  • Growth habit — Amphibious stem, feeds from roots and water column
  • Propagation — Cuttings

Grower's Notes

  • It branches instead of climbing. Most Hygrophila needs constant topping to stay in the midground. Araguaia naturally throws side shoots and stays compact, so a planted group thickens on its own with far less trimming.
  • CO₂ changes the leaf shape. Without injection the leaves are broader and the growth looser. With it, they narrow into the fine needle form and the bush tightens — the difference is visible rather than subtle.
  • Color sits between bronze and red. This is not a scarlet plant. Under medium light with steady iron dosing it holds a brown-red tone that reads as depth against green neighbors, which is exactly what makes it useful.
  • Expect melt in the first two weeks. Emersed-grown stems drop most of their original leaves after planting. Leave the stems in place — the submersed growth that follows is the form you want.
  • Plant it where a stem plant would normally be too tall. At four to ten inches it fills the awkward gap between a carpet and a background hedge, which few red plants do well.

Notes

  • Images are for reference only; actual plants may vary in size, color, and fullness
  • Plants may be grown emersed and will transition once submerged
  • Minor melting during acclimation is normal
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Worth a try

Super fast shipping. Most of the plants in my order were in good condition except the lancea. It came in with a lot of leaves turning black or transparent. A lot of leaves fell off within the first few days. Hopefully it bounces back, everything else seems to be doing good though. I would still recommend this company for its fair pricing, fast shipping, and decent quality plants

Great looking and affordable!

After looking through multiple distributors of live plants including one right here in the Chicago IL. area you were the only ones to have the variety I was looking for at same location at the same time. Even though I always try to purchase locally there are times when you have to go off the grid. All the plants I recieved in this order were in great shape and far more than I expected and how you managed to get them here (Northwest IN.) in three days was more than a pleasant surprise!

Beautiful

The plants arrived in excellent condition (used the UPS 2 day shipping option). The clippings started developing roots right away and it seems that they are thriving. I got them with the promotion of buying one and getting one for free and I’m glad I did. Beautiful stemmed plant.

Should have bought more!

These showed up in amazing shape. A few leaves were damaged, but my shrimp made quick work of them and ate them up. They are great background plants and I will be ordering more when I have the chance to fill in the empty spaces in my tank and off-set the hornwort.
