Limnophila Rugosa

The Limnophila that isn't feathery. Limnophila rugosa breaks with its genus entirely — broad, textured, basil-like leaves in bright green instead of the fine whorled foliage sessiliflora and aromatica are known for. Bushy and dense, and unmistakable next to anything else in a planted tank.

Grower’s Notes

• Broad leaves are the whole point. If your scape already has fine-textured stems, adding another feathery plant just adds bulk. Rugosa's wide crinkled leaves give contrast within the same growth form.
• Grown emersed it produces a distinct scent from the leaves — the plant is used as a herb in parts of its native range.
• Trim the tops and replant them; repeated topping builds density.
• Plant stems an inch apart. Broad leaves shade each other badly when crowded, and the lower leaves drop.
• Feed at the roots as well as the water column — the large leaves need the input.
