Ludwigia Meta

Format: Fresh-cut Potted

Price
$19.99

Ludwigia Meta is what people reach for when Ludwigia Pantanal has beaten them. It gives the same fine whorls of narrow leaves and the same orange-to-red burn under strong light, but without Pantanal's intolerance for anything less than perfect. Still uncommon in the trade, and still a centerpiece plant.

What You'll Receive

Choose the format that suits your aquascaping needs:

  • Fresh-Cut Plants: Approximately 6+ unrooted stems
  • Bunched Plants: 6+ fresh-cut stems without root, bundled with foam and plant weight
  • Potted Plants: 6+ fresh-cut stems potted in rockwool within a 2-inch net pot

  • Growth habit — Amphibious stem, feeds from roots and water column
  • Propagation — Cuttings

Grower's Notes

  • It arrives green and it is supposed to. Our stock is grown emersed, where the leaves are plain green. Orange and red develop only after the plant converts to submersed growth under your lighting — usually three to four weeks in.
  • Soft water matters more than light. Meta colors and grows best with carbonate hardness under 4°dH. In hard water it stays green and slowly stalls no matter how much light and iron you throw at it — test KH rather than chasing a pH number.
  • Easier than Pantanal, same look. If you have lost Ludwigia Pantanal to melt or stunting, Meta gives a similar fine-leaved red without the same intolerance of imperfect conditions.
  • It branches poorly, so plant more stems. Meta grows straight up with little side-shooting. Density comes from planting a group close together, not from waiting for one stem to bush out.
  • Replant the tops, discard the bases. As with most fine-leaved Ludwigia, the lower stem goes bare with age. Cut the top few inches, replant them, and pull the old base.

Notes

  • Ludwigia Meta ships in its emersed green form. Once submerged and provided with strong light and nutrients, it will gradually develop its iconic orange to red hues. Slight leaf melt during transition is normal.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Already Coloring up and Pearling!

I received some hearty stems of Ludwigia Meta a day and a half ago. They arrived just like the all green website picture. But, as you can see in my photos, my nearly 2 day old stems are already transitioning into their orange-red coloration with their new growth. Additionally, they're pearling already! Great find and happy to have purchased so far.

Labeling needs improvement

Very good healthy stock. Please find an additional method for consumer to identify each plant. The packets each had a number that I couldn’t match up.
