Ludwigia Super Red Mini

Format: Fresh-cut Potted

Price
$19.99

The "Mini" in the name is about the leaf, not the plant. Ludwigia palustris 'Super Red' in its mini form carries the same deep crimson as standard Super Red on leaves a fraction of the size — but left untrimmed, the stem grows just as tall as any other Ludwigia. It's also one of the easier red stem plants to color: it turns red reliably even under medium light, and stays a forgiving, beginner-friendly plant overall.

What You’ll Receive

Elevate your aquascape with our premium selection of versatile aquatic plants, available in the following convenient formats:

  • Fresh Cut Plants: Includes approximately 6+ loose, fresh-cut stems without roots. Perfect for flexible planting arrangements.
  • Fresh Cut Bunched: Approximately 6+ fresh-cut stems without roots, bundled with foam and a plant weight for easy placement.
  • Fresh Cut Potted: About 6+ fresh-cut stems without roots, securely potted in a net pot with rockwool, ensuring stability and healthy growth.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Super Red Mini Ludwigia
  • Scientific name — Ludwigia palustris 'Super Red'
  • Also known as — Ludwigia Super Red Mini, Dwarf Super Red
  • Origin — Cultivated form; Ludwigia palustris is widely distributed
  • Placement — Midground to background
  • Shipped size — Approx. 6+ fresh-cut stems, roughly 3-6 in
  • Mature height — 4–10 in
  • Suits — 10 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Medium

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Medium to high. Turns red reliably even under medium light — one of the easier red stem plants to color up, no high-light setup required
  • CO₂ — Recommended, not required
  • Water — 68–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Needs a nutrient-rich substrate to do well; without one, dose a liquid nutrient or fertilizer to make up the difference
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Cuttings — trim and replant stem tops

Grower’s Notes

  • It is not a compact plant. The stem grows tall like any other Ludwigia if left alone — "Mini" describes the leaf size, not the overall height. Trim regularly to hold it at midground.
  • The smaller leaf is what sets this cultivar apart from standard Super Red — same deep color, finer texture.
  • Turns red easily, even under medium light. Most red stem plants need high light to show color; this one doesn't.
  • Needs a nutrient-rich substrate to look its best. No enriched substrate on hand is fine too — a liquid nutrient or fertilizer covers the gap.
  • A genuinely beginner-friendly plant overall — forgiving on light and CO₂, with regular trimming the main task.

Notes

  • Photos are for reference; color and leaf size vary considerably with lighting and nutrients. Grown emersed and will transition to submersed growth after planting.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Healthy Plants!

Put these in a couple of days ago & so far so good. Plants arrived in really good shape. I know they will probably need to adapt to my tank parameters but I hope they fit right in. Beautiful Plant!

Not as red as the images

It came in rather green. There were a reasonable number of stems. The health and vibrancy of the stems was spectacular.

I did not acclimate them and immedately submerged them completely. Here's some new growth 12 days after submerging. The plant has grown significantly in height, put out multiple roots, and new (smaller, submerged) leaves are begining to come out. The larger emmersed leaf is naturally dying as the plant redirects its nutrients.

The super red is no joke it is the reddest and fastest growing Ludwigia I’ve ever seen. It is almost ready to trim after 1 week. Love it

Looks good so far

Plants came in with little to no leaf drop (maybe 7 or 8 total leaves fell off across 10 stems) and they are definitely mini. Many other stores sell regular plant varieties and sell them as mini, leaves are tiny on these. Let's hope they turn more red.

Growing very quickly

From ordering to receiving my plants took only 3 days. All were packaged well and arrived perfect even though the temps near me were in the 30’s.
I got 3 generous portions of this plant. (Buy 2 get 1 free) In the two weeks since it’s been planted, there’s been about 4 inches of growth. It is filling out the back of my tank beautifully. I’m about to fill up a second tank with propagations. Lots of bang for your buck here.

Nice...

I’ve never done a review of anything, ever, but shipping live aquatic plants has to be tough. My order arrived on the day promised and the plants were well packaged and fresh. I received everything ordered including all ‘buy 2s get 1 free’ with even a few extras in the packages. I already had my substrate prepared but still spent hours tying rhizomes and sinking stems. When I filled the tank and turned on the light the plants popped right up and look beautiful.

Beautiful healthy plants!

So impressed with prices, quality and quantity! I was a first time customer and was nervous purchasing a large order, but did anyway. And boy I do not regret it one but. They came as quick as they said, and they were all thriving and beautiful. I personally emailed them just to let them know they had a done such a terrific job with my order. It’s hard to find good aquarium plants anymore I feel like. I’m glad I took a chance on them! Take a look at the photos, again, I purchase quite a bit and I own an 80gallon waterbox. Completely full now! I didn’t just buy this one plant, I bought a variety and so you can see here, no matter what you buy, they will be healthy and beautiful!!! This tank is one week old now.

My Turtle is Obsessed!!

I buy these plants for my Eastern Painted Turtle who is obsessed with red plants. APF always ships my orders promptly and with care (I live on the east coast). I may have tried different companies in the past but always go back to APF realizing my mistake. Thank you!!!

Great plants

Plants took longer than expected due to USPS delays, but even after 7 days and cold weather, they arrived looking healthy. Also got many stems per bunch. Would buy again.

Arrived healthy and currently thriving

The plants came in fantastic condition as usual, everything was nice and healthy.
They have since acclimated very well, turned that super red that you would expect and I have given them their first big trim and replant session.
Everything has about doubled in size after 2 weeks in my lowtech setup.

The description states CO2 is recommended for optimal growth but the chart says NO. Is CO2 needed or not? I bought this based on what the chart stated.

CO2 is not required for this plant.
