Ludwigia sp. White

Want white foliage rather than red? Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata 'White' produces slender leaves in pale pink through near-white — a color almost nothing else in a planted tank offers. It is also one of the most demanding stem plants we sell, and worth understanding before you buy.

Grower’s Notes

• The pale color is why it is difficult. White and pale pink tissue carries very little chlorophyll, so the plant photosynthesizes inefficiently and has far less margin than a green or even a red Ludwigia. High light and stable CO₂ are not optional extras here — they are what keep it alive.
• Stability matters more than any single value. It reacts badly to swinging CO₂ or a large water change, and typically responds by melting from the lower stem upward.
• Handle it by the base only. The fine whorled leaves strip where you grip, and bare nodes do not refoliate.
• Trim and replant the tops. Lower sections rarely recover well enough to be worth keeping on a plant this slow to build.
• It arrives green or greenish. The pink and white develop only once it has converted to submersed growth under strong light — judge the color after a few weeks.
