Golden Creeping Jenny

Yellow-gold, which almost nothing underwater is. Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' — Golden Creeping Jenny — carries round chartreuse leaves on trailing stems that either climb or spill over hardscape depending how you plant it. Originally a bog and marginal plant, so it works submerged, emersed, or half and half.

Grower’s Notes

• Gold is a light response. Under medium-high light the foliage goes bright chartreuse; under low light it reverts to ordinary green. If the color is why you're buying, put it near the top of the tank, not in a shaded corner.
• It prefers cooler water and thins out above about 78°F — better suited to room-temperature and lightly heated tanks than a warm tropical one.
• Let it trail. Planted at the top of a rock or ledge the stems cascade downward, which is a different effect from any upright stem plant.
• It is at its strongest emersed. In a riparium or paludarium margin it grows indefinitely and the color is more intense.
• Trim and replant cuttings; sections root from any node.

Notes

• As a stem plant, some melting may occur during transition from emersed to submerged growth. Remove any deteriorated leaves and replant healthy stems. Regular trimming will encourage bushier, compact growth.
• Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.
