Emersed Growth: Fresh-cut Plants

In stock and ready for shipping
Micranthemum Callitrichoides, commonly known as Dwarf Baby Tears, is a small aquatic plant native to Cuba, highly prized in the aquarium hobby. Previously known as Hemianthus Callitrichoides 'Cuba', it was reclassified in 2010 based on molecular and morphological studies.

Dwarf Baby Tears

Emersed Growth: Fresh-cut Plants

$7.99

The finest carpet in the hobby, and the least forgiving. Dwarf Baby Tears — HC Cuba — has leaves a few millimetres across, so a healthy carpet reads at a scale nothing else matches. It also wants high light, CO₂, and water below 78°F. Get those right and it carpets fast; get them wrong and it lifts off the substrate in sheets.

What You’ll Receive

Select the format that best fits your aquascape:

  • Fresh-cut Plants
Small loose clusters of HC (approx. 1"x1"), ideal for immediate planting and the most efficient way to establish a healthy HC carpet.
  • Rooted Bunched Plants
Healthy stems tied with weight for quick anchoring and faster establishment.
  • Rooted Potted Plants
Fully rooted plants grown in rockwool — the easiest to transition and quickest to carpet.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Dwarf Baby Tears, HC Cuba
  • Scientific nameMicranthemum callitrichoides 'Cuba'
  • Also known asHemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba' (the older name, still in wide use), HC Cuba, HC
  • Origin — Cuba
  • Placement — Foreground
  • Shipped size — Small clusters approx. 1"x1", or rooted portions
  • Mature height — 1–2 in
  • Suits — 5 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Fast, once established

Care

  • Difficulty — Advanced
  • Light — High. Light must reach the substrate, not just the surface
  • CO₂ — Required
  • Water — 68–78°F · pH 6.0–7.0. Note the ceiling — HC struggles in warm tanks
  • Substrate — Required. Nutrient-rich soil
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Runners and stolons

Grower’s Notes

  • Temperature is the overlooked failure. People blame light and CO₂ when a carpet melts, but HC does poorly above about 78°F. In a tank running at 80–82°F for discus or similar, it will not hold — use Monte Carlo instead.
  • Two names, one plant. Most of the hobby knows it as Hemianthus callitrichoides; the accepted name is now Micranthemum callitrichoides. You will see both on shop shelves and in forums.
  • Plant small — three or four leaves per portion, half an inch apart. Large clumps rot in the middle and float off.
  • A carpet that lifts is a rooting problem, not a nutrient problem. Press portions firmly into fine substrate and keep flow off them until they anchor.
  • If this sounds like more than you want, Micranthemum Monte Carlo carpets in similar style with far less demand.

Want to go deeper? Read our carpet plant comparison: Dwarf Baby Tears vs Monte Carlo vs Dwarf Hairgrass.

Notes

  • Photos are for reference only. Actual plant size, shape, and density may vary based on growth stage and tank conditions. Some initial melting may occur during transition.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Customers praised these aquatic plants for arriving healthy with "great root systems" and "lush vibrant green" color. Many noted the plants spread well and add visual interest. However, some shoppers felt quantity was smaller than expected for the price. Most reported minimal die-off and plants thriving with "no melt" after a week.

  • Lush vibrant green. Quality of these plants, excellent.
  • Large portions, great root systems!
  • Such cute little plants. They absolutely pop against my biostratum, seiryu stone and driftwood.

  • 4 stars: 1 (6%)
  • 3 stars: 1 (6%)

Sad at the amount, but happy at the quality.

I ordered 9 and this is a 20 gallon long tank. I honestly thought I'd be getting about twice as much at the price. However, you can see that not only was there negligible die-off, they have actually spread very well. I dumped these straight underwater with no acclimation period. The cloudy image is within an hour of planting. The other two images are two weeks later.

So far, my favorite

These are such cute little plants. I chose to leave one bunched and seperate the other 3 ways. They absolutely pop against my biostratum, seiryu stone and driftwood. I love how they sort of flow with the water current which adds visual interest, and I think my future fry will enjoy hiding in then as well. Hoping they spread!
