Milfoil that colors. Myriophyllum sp. 'Roraima' grows the fine feathery whorls the genus is known for, but runs orange through reddish-brown under strong light instead of staying green — an unusual thing in a milfoil, and the reason to choose it over the common green species. From the Roraima region of Brazil. This is the sterile Vitro Culture® (tissue culture) format.

What You'll Receive

Fresh, healthy Myriophyllum sp. 'Roraima' Vitro Culture® cultivated and prepared by Aquarium Plants Factory®, available in convenient pack sizes:

  • 1 Bag: One 4-inch Vitro Culture® bag containing many small plantlets ready for separation and planting.
  • 5 Bags: Five 4-inch Vitro Culture® bags containing many small plantlets per bag for larger aquascaping projects.
  • 10 Bags: Ten 4-inch Vitro Culture® bags containing many small plantlets per bag, ideal for large aquariums, propagation, or aquascape layouts.

Each 4-inch bag contains multiple healthy plantlets grown in sterile nutrient gel, allowing you to separate and plant many individual stems throughout your aquarium.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Roraima Milfoil
  • Scientific name — Myriophyllum sp. 'Roraima'
  • Also known as — Red Milfoil, Roraima Watermilfoil
  • Origin — Roraima, Brazil
  • Placement — Midground to background
  • Shipped size — 4-inch bag of small plantlets
  • Mature height — 8–16 in
  • Suits — 10 gallons and up
  • Growth rate — Very fast

Care

  • Difficulty — Intermediate
  • Light — Medium to high. Light intensity is what produces the orange and red
  • CO₂ — Not required. It grows without injection, though color and density improve with it
  • Water — 68–82°F · pH 6.0–7.0
  • Substrate — Not required. It feeds mainly from the water column
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Cuttings — trim and replant stem tops

Grower's Notes

  • Very fast means very fast. This is among the quickest growers in the genus and will reach the surface and shade everything beneath it if left alone. Trim on a schedule rather than when it looks untidy — that is the difference between a dense bush and a bare-stemmed mess.
  • Dose the water column. Milfoil absorbs through its foliage rather than its roots, so liquid macro and micronutrients matter far more than root tabs. Washed-out color is usually an iron or trace shortfall.
  • Rinse the gel off and separate the plantlets before planting, spacing them an inch apart. Fine whorled foliage shades itself badly when planted as a clump.
  • Trim and replant the tops. It branches readily from below the cut, so repeated topping is how a few stems become a dense group.
  • Plant it as a block against green neighbors. The warm color reads as an accent, and a single stem among green plants just looks lost.

Notes

  • Appearance, size, and coloration may vary depending on growing conditions and season. Plants may arrive in their emersed (farm-grown) form and will transition to their submerged aquarium form after planting.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.
