Red Root Floater (Phyllanthus fluitans) floating aquarium plant

Red Root Floater

Floating Plants: Small Portion

Price
$19.99

Floats at the surface on round, coin-sized leaves trailing crimson roots into the water column. Given strong light the leaf undersides and margins turn deep red as well, which is the reason most people buy it.

What You’ll Receive

A small portion (approximately 2” × 2”) of healthy Red Root Floater containing approximately 6–8 plants.

Each plant includes multiple leaves, forming small clusters ready to grow and spread on the water surface.

Plants are carefully harvested and packed to ensure they arrive fresh and ready to add directly to your aquarium or pond.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Red Root Floater
  • Scientific name — Phyllanthus fluitans
  • Placement — Floating
  • Mature height — Floats at the surface
  • Growth rate — Fast

Care

  • Difficulty — Intermediate
  • Light — Medium to high
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Feeding — Water column
  • Propagation — Runners

Grower’s Notes

  • Keep the surface still. Water sitting on the leaves makes them yellow and rot, so aim filter outflow below the surface and break up any spray.
  • Leave an air gap under the lid. Condensation dripping onto the leaves does the same damage.
  • Red is a lighting response, not a health sign. In medium light it stays green and healthy; strong light and available iron bring out the color.
  • It doubles quickly — thin it by hand every week or two or it shades out everything beneath.

Want to go deeper? Read our complete Red Root Floater Care Guide.

Notes

  • Photos are for reference; leaf size and red intensity vary considerably with lighting and iron availability.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Customers praised the vibrant red roots and leaves, with one noting "already producing new growth" within a week. Most reported excellent quality, generous quantities, and healthy plants that adapt easily. Shrimp and fish enjoy them. Some concerns: occasional duckweed contamination, melting during adjustment, and one customer felt quantity didn't match price expectations.

Super awesome and healthy plants!

All the plants that came in still seemed healthy, they have only been planted in the aquarium for about 2 days and the red root floaters are already showing new growth and turning red! The Java Ferns are also already attaching themselves to my lava rocks, can’t wait to see how it all looks when I can trim and replant to really fill everything in.

7/8

Everything came incredibly vibrant and green, and has already needed trimming in the tank, save for a pair of poor crypto that did melt away. A small loss in an otherwise fantastic bundle of plants.

So far this is my favorite aquarium plant!

So far this is my favorite aquarium plant! I love how red the roots and leaves are, and it has been the easiest to adapt. The only minor issue i had was that these floaters (or one of the plants purchased here) came with duckweed that has now been making itself at home in my tank.

Nice quantity but average condition

I ordered several plants at once from here and this was the only one that was not a tissue culture. Because of that I expected the possibility of snails, and there were quite a few baby snails on this one. I washed off the snails and so far the floaters are doing okay in my aquarium. This is the only one out of all the plants I ordered that have melted back though. I am hoping they bounce back as they adjust.

Great quality product

I planted my aquarium with a few products including the red root floater. They are already growing and adjusting to the environment. I highly reckoned aquatic plant factory and the product specifically. It exchanges the aquarium with a red hue in a green planted aquarium.

Excellent Condition, Vigorous Growth

They arrived and I wasnt able to put my plants in same day due to being out of town when they showed up. The next day I put them in the tank and after 5 days theyre already producing more leaves with minimal melting. A teensy bit of duckweed showed up so I assume it was stuck to one, thats fine thats a bonus for me. Outcompete my red algae, little floating plants, feast upon the nutrients!
