Grower’s Notes

• It arrives green. Grown emersed the leaves are green; the red only develops once it converts to submerged growth under decent light. Judge the color after a few weeks, not on arrival.
• It prefers cooler water than most. At 65–78°F it sits below the usual range, so it does better in a room-temperature tank than a warm one.
• It comes from limestone rivers, so hard water is no obstacle — useful if your tap water has defeated other red plants.
• Propagate by separating side shoots. Each rosette establishes independently, so a couple of plants become a patch over a season.
• As a rosette it stays put rather than climbing, which makes it far easier to place than a red stem plant.
