Carpeting a whole foreground one portion at a time is slow and expensive. Staurogyne repens spreads by creeping sideways rather than by runner, so the fastest route to a finished carpet is planting enough stems at the start — which is what this pack is for.

Grower's Notes

• Buy enough to plant it properly. Staurogyne creeps rather than running, so it fills gaps slowly. Sixty stems planted two inches apart cover roughly a 12x12 inch area on day one — far faster than waiting for six stems to spread across it.
• Plant the stems a couple of inches apart and let them creep together. Packed tight from day one, the inner stems shade each other and drop their lower leaves.
• Trim the tops early rather than waiting for height. Every cut forces side shoots, and that branching is what turns a row of stems into an actual carpet.
• Replant every trimming — cut tops root readily, so the carpet keeps expanding at no extra cost.
• Yellowing lower leaves usually means light isn't reaching the base, either because the mat has thickened or a taller plant is shading it.
