🌿 Microsorum pteropus – The Classic and Essential Java Fern

Microsorum pteropus, commonly known as Java Fern, is one of the most iconic and widely used aquatic plants in the aquarium hobby. Native to Southeast Asia, this species is prized for its durability, versatility, and timeless beauty. With its long, arching green leaves and easy adaptability, Java Fern is a staple in both beginner and professional aquascapes alike.

At Aquarium Plants Factory, we grow Java Fern in its emersed form, ensuring strong rhizome development and healthy foliage before it transitions into submerged conditions. Once placed in your aquarium, it quickly becomes a lush centerpiece or backdrop, adding both height and movement to your underwater layout.

Microsorum pteropus is a rhizome plant and should be attached to driftwood, rock, or aquarium décor, as burying the rhizome may cause it to rot. It thrives in low to medium light, requires no CO₂, and is exceptionally low maintenance—making it the perfect choice for low-tech and high-tech setups alike.

0 Stars - Do not buy ferns from here

The only two ferns I have ever purchased came from here and ended up having galls. They showed up past the quarantine period since they can be dormant for months. Galls are incurable, VERY contagious, and a slow guaranteed death for ferns. Now the spores are forever stuck in my tank.

Pictured in the background there is an APF anubias that rotted and killed my other 3 anubias. My luck has been TERRIBLE with APF plants.

      Jave Fern Sizes

I bought 12 Java Ferns (or 8 with the 2 for 1 deal), but instead of getting 12 Java Ferns, I felt like I got 12 leaves from one Java Fern.
