Format: Bare-root Plants

Narrow, pointed leaves in a tight rosette. Anubias barteri 'Short & Sharp' gives a scape sharp vertical line where most Anubias give rounded mass — compact enough for a nano tank, and as undemanding as anything else in the genus.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Short & Sharp Anubias
  • Scientific name — Anubias barteri 'Short & Sharp'
  • Also known as — Anubias Short and Sharp
  • Origin — Cultivated form; the genus is native to West and Central Africa
  • Placement — Midground, attached to hardscape
  • Mature height — 3-5 inches
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium. Strong light means algae on slow-turning leaves.
  • CO₂ — Not required. Liquid fertilizer supports foliage health if you want it.
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Epiphyte — attach the rhizome to driftwood, stone or décor and never bury it.
  • Growth habit — Amphibious; also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • Buy it for the line, not the mass. A scape carrying two or three broad-leaved Anubias starts to read as one texture. Short & Sharp's narrow pointed leaves break that up without changing the care regime at all.
  • Never bury the rhizome — including when dividing. Cut sections keeping several leaves each and attach every piece to hardscape with thread or aquarium-safe glue. Divisions pushed into substrate rot.
  • Keep it shaded. Slow growth means algae settles on a leaf faster than the plant replaces it.
  • Anchored on wood or rock it also gives cover for shrimp and small fish — useful in a tank with little other structure.
  • Slow growth means damaged leaves stay damaged. Trim them at the rhizome rather than waiting for recovery.

Beautiful!

Of all the plants I ordered, the anubias short and sharp is one of the most beautiful! I’m looking forward to seeing how it looks in a couple years and has grown, but it is an instant focal plant, especially attached to a piece of driftwood or rock

Alternanthera Rosanervig Mini is a striking, small-leaved cultivar of the popular Alternanthera family, prized for its vivid pink to red coloration and compact growth habit. Ideal for nano tanks and high-impact foreground to midground layouts, this miniature variety features pronounced pink veining on each leaf, adding a dramatic contrast against green aquatic plants.
