Anubias Hastifolia

Format: Rooted Potted

Price
$12.99

The only Anubias with a genuine arrowhead leaf. Anubias hastifolia grows large hastate leaves — spear-shaped with two pointed lobes flaring at the base — on long stalks reaching 10–16 inches. From West Africa, and as undemanding as the rest of the genus despite the dramatic shape.

What You’ll Receive

  • Sold as loose Bare-root Plant or Potted plant
  • Bare-root plant | 4+ leaf loose bare-root rhizome
  • Potted plants | 4+ leaf plants with net pot and rock wool

Plant Profile

  • Placement — Midground to background, attached to driftwood, stone or décor
  • Mature height — 10–16 in
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium. Strong light means algae on slow-turning leaves
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Attaches to hardscape
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed — good in paludariums
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower’s Notes

  • Leaf shape is the reason to buy it. Every other Anubias gives you an oval or a spade. Hastifolia's flared basal lobes read as a completely different plant from across the room — useful when a scape already has plenty of Anubias and needs variety, not volume.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Glue or tie it to wood or stone; buried rhizomes rot.
  • Long leaf stalks mean it occupies more space than its height suggests — give it room to arch.
  • Tough enough for cichlid and community tanks that destroy softer planting.
  • Divide with a clean blade, keeping several leaves and some roots per section.

Great plants

I’m new to having live plants in my aquarium, but so far they are doing great. They came well packaged and all in good condition (I’ve ordered twice from here now). I love that the website has the care information right on the page for each plant. I was able to use that against my own research to find the plants that would do best in my set up, and how to properly place them and make sure they get nutrients. This is my go-to for aquatic plants now.
