Compact Paxing Anubias ready to plant in nano aquascape

Anubias Paxing

Format: Bare-root Plants

Price
$5.99

Paxing is a compact Anubias with broad, rounded, waxy leaves in deep green on a low, tight rhizome. It is a recent introduction to the trade and still uncommon — but it behaves like every other nana selection: low light, no CO₂, no substrate, very hard to kill.

What You'll Receive

Elevate your aquascape with our premium selection of versatile aquatic plants, available in the following convenient formats:

  • Loose rhizome | approx. 6+ leaf, loose, bare-root, small portion
  • Potted plants | approx 10+ leaf, potted plants with rockwool and net pot

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Paxing Anubias
  • Scientific name — Anubias barteri var. nana 'Paxing'
  • Also known as — Anubias Barteri Paxing
  • Origin — Cultivated selection; the genus is native to West and Central Africa
  • Placement — Foreground to midground, attached to hardscape
  • Mature height — 2-4 inches
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium. Shade-tolerant; strong light means algae on slow-turning leaves.
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Epiphyte; attaches to wood, rock or décor.
  • Growth habit — Amphibious; also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • Round leaves at a small size are what set it apart. Most compact Anubias have spade or lance-shaped foliage. Paxing keeps a broad rounded blade on a two-to-four-inch plant, which gives a nano scape the visual weight of a larger Anubias without the footprint.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Roots can go into substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots — the most common way an Anubias is lost.
  • Because it lives on hardscape rather than in substrate, you can lift and reposition it at any time without disturbing the layout.
  • Waxy leaves are good grazing surfaces once biofilm develops, which is why it suits shrimp tanks.
  • Occasional micronutrient dosing keeps the green deep; it is not required, but it shows.

Notes

Avoid burying the rhizome in substrate, as this may cause rot. Plant appearance may vary slightly depending on aquarium conditions.

Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Nice medium size anubias for a beginner... ME!

One of two plants that came in my very first order with APF. This one arrived slightly squished but very healthy, and wrapped in layers of silvery bubble-wrap insulation. No "frostbite" or rot ;-) It is currently floating in a tank until I decide what I want to do with it.

great plant!

I was surprised and impressed with the size of the anubias paxing. Often times anubias looks large in photos and I’m then disappointed with how tiny it is when it arrives, however these were decent size!
