Anubias Varking

Format: Rooted Potted

Price
$79.99

The most heavily variegated Anubias we grow. Anubias 'Varking' throws chaotic patterning across every leaf — greens, whites and occasional yellow, in combinations that differ leaf to leaf and plant to plant. Nothing about it is repeatable, which is the appeal and also the reason it is a collector's plant rather than a workhorse.

What You’ll Receive

  • Bare-root Plants  | approx. 5 leaf loose rhizome
  • Potted plants | approx. 5 leaf plant, root developed potted with net pot and rock wool

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Varking Anubias
  • Scientific name — Anubias barteri 'Varking'
  • Placement — Midground, attached to driftwood, stone or décor
  • Mature height — 3–5 in
  • Growth rate — Very slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Advanced. Heavy variegation on an already slow plant leaves very little margin
  • Light — Low to medium, steady. Not intense
  • CO₂ — Not required, though it helps a plant this slow
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5. Stability matters more than any specific value
  • Substrate — Not required. Attaches to hardscape
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower’s Notes

  • Why this one is Advanced when a variegated stem plant isn't. Anubias is already a slow, low-energy plant. Removing much of its chlorophyll takes away the reserve it would normally use to recover from a setback. Vigorous fast growers absorb that loss; Anubias cannot.
  • It can revert. Under weak light or thin feeding the plant may push plain green leaves. Those leaves grow better than the variegated ones, so left alone they gradually take over — trim them out as they appear.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Glue or tie it to wood or stone; buried rhizomes rot.
  • Keep light moderate and consistent. Pale tissue burns and attracts algae faster than green tissue.
  • Every plant is genuinely unique — what you receive will not match the photograph, by nature of the cultivar.

Beautiful Plants!

Just absolutely beautiful. The plants arrived in great condition and I was pleasantly surprised to see extras. I ordered bare root plants expecting to receive a single plant, but received a clump of 2-4. Such a great deal in terms of price for such rare plants! I will be buying more in the future for sure!

Can’t wait to grow it out

Seen how big these can get out of water and wanted to give them a try. After opening the bag the plant split into multiple sections and allowed me to give a piece to my daughter for propagation, make two healthy sized pots, and place some around the tank. Looks great.

Had some anubias rot

I been a fan of Aquarium Plant Factory and never had an issue. The plant had some rot on it and had to cut some of it. However I was still able to recover 60% of the plant after trimming the rots. I will still continue buying from Aquarium Plant Factory and continue supporting them. I won’t let one issue stop me from buying more plants. They have always been good to me.
