Format: Sprouted Bulb With Leaf

Deeply ruffled leaves that move with the current. Aponogeton longiplumulosus is a Madagascar bulb plant that grows long, flowing, heavily undulating leaves — the ruffling is pronounced enough that the plant reads as movement rather than mass. It grows fast and wants room; 20 gallons is a sensible minimum.

Grower's Notes

  • Give it 20 gallons or leave it alone. Fast growth and long ruffled leaves mean a single bulb dominates a small tank within weeks. In a nano it is not a centerpiece, it is the whole scape.
  • Set the bulb on the substrate, don't bury it. Leave the top third exposed; buried bulbs rot instead of sprouting.
  • A dormant rest is normal. Leaves die back, the bulb rests, and growth resumes. Leave it in place rather than discarding it.
  • Root tabs are not optional on a fast-growing bulb plant. It exhausts its own reserves and then stalls in inert gravel.
  • The ruffling shows best with some water movement. In dead-still water the leaves hang rather than flow, which loses most of the effect.

Notes

  • Bulbs without leaves are healthy and capable of sprouting under proper aquarium conditions. Sprouting time varies depending on water parameters, lighting, and aquarium stability. If you're new to bulb plants or prefer immediate results, we strongly recommend selecting the Sprouted Bulb With Leaf option.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Hopefully helpful information

I am writing this review to hopefully help someone out in the future. I placed this order on a Sunday and the plants shipped on Monday, excellent service. I qualified for free shipping so that is the method I chose. The USPS did not deliver the plants until an entire week later even though their estimated time of delivery was only a few days so you can imagine the shape they were in when they arrived. Although not nearly as bad as I expected which says a lot about the quality of the plants when they were shipped. I have been trying to rehab them to the best of my abilities and it is still a work in progress. I will order from this company again in the future but will definitely choose express shipping. I believe they were in excellent shape and size when they shipped so it is not APF fault.
