Bucephalandra Brownie Ghost

Want the darkest plant in the tank? Brownie Ghost grows deep brown to almost black leaves carrying a silver-blue iridescent sheen — the "ghost" is that metallic shimmer across a very dark leaf, and it reads dramatically against green plants and pale hardscape.

Grower’s Notes

• The sheen is structural, not pigment. The silvery shimmer comes from the leaf surface itself, so it appears and disappears with viewing angle and light source. Under RGB or full-spectrum lighting it is obvious; under warm white the plant reads as plain dark brown.
• Never bury the rhizome. Roots may sit in substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots — the usual way an expensive Buce is lost.
• Place it against something pale. A near-black plant on dark wood disappears; against light stone or pale sand it becomes a focal point.
• Give it flow. Bucephalandra are rheophytes from fast Borneo streams, and current keeps the leaves clean of debris and algae.
• Farm-raised, not wild-collected. All the Bucephalandra we carry is farm-grown, and much of it is raised from tissue culture rather than collected from Borneo.
