Bucephalandra Green Wavy

Format: 10 Bare-root (50+ Leaves)

Want a Buce that flowers in the tank? Green Wavy produces small white spathes underwater more readily than most Bucephalandra — an odd and rewarding thing to find one morning. The leaves are broad, deep green and softly undulating along their edges.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Green Wavy Buce
  • Scientific name — Bucephalandra sp. 'Green Wavy'
  • Also known as — Bucephalandra pygmaea
  • Origin — West Kalimantan, Borneo
  • Placement — Foreground to midground, on wood or stone
  • Mature height — 2–4 in
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium. Too much light brings algae it cannot outgrow
  • CO₂ — Not required, though it establishes faster with it
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Attaches to hardscape
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Emersed growth needs high humidity
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower’s Notes

  • It flowers underwater, and often. Small white spathes push up from the rhizome on established plants. They are harmless, last a few days, and are a good sign the plant has settled — not something to remove or worry about.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Roots may sit in substrate; the rhizome cannot. Buried, it rots — the usual way an expensive Buce is lost.
  • The wavy leaf edge is a variety trait, not a deficiency. New leaves come in flatter and develop the undulation as they harden off.
  • Give it flow. Bucephalandra are rheophytes from fast Borneo streams, and current keeps the leaves clean of debris and algae.
  • Farm-raised, not wild-collected. All the Bucephalandra we carry is farm-grown, and much of it is raised from tissue culture rather than collected from Borneo.

Notes

  • Pictures shown are for reference only. You will receive healthy live plants similar in size and appearance, but natural variations may occur. Bucephalandra may experience minor leaf melt during acclimation — new growth will follow under stable conditions.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Great condition, it just didn’t end up well for me

Plants came in great! But they all melted in a matter of 3 days in a well established tank :/

Great Buy, Excellent Plants

My order came 2 days earlier than expected and the plants were in excellent condition. They were large, firm, with large, well developed root systems. I've had orders from other sellers arrive with small plants having an underdeveloped root system - they seldom survived. These are winners!

Gorgeous, healthy plant

This was my first time purchasing any type of Bucephalandra and I was very pleased with the result. My plant arrived healthy, green, and with long roots and a robust rhizome. It looks absolutely gorgeous in my tank and after about a week it’s adapted quite well.

Quick delivery, good quality

They came in great! After a little over a week, there's been no die off, no melting, and some new rhizome growth already. Tested them out in different areas and heights, all are doing well. Recommended for those looking for something a little different.

Awesome product

The bucephilandra showed up well packaged, and beautiful looking. I ordered later in the week so it took a bit longer to get to me than usual, and the plants were packaged well enough to not show any signs of issue. Very great experiences so far! I will continue to buy my plants from this vendor. Now just have to get through the melt back stage, and hopefully they will be happy enough to possibly flower when I'm aroundto see it.

Great plant for nano tank

I love the dark and wavy look of these leaves. Contrasts well with lighter green petite anubias. Very healthy bare root plants.

Nice little plant

This plant arrived with the others, I loved the attention to detail of the packaging, really well done. I received 2 plants, 1 in great condition and the other hanging on for it's life. I am excited to see how they turn out and looking forward to another great layer in the tank.

Bucephalandra Green Wavy - bare root

Each portion came in an approximately 2x3 plastic bag. Each portion was plump & healthy. Placed in a temporary holding until ready to use. After a few weeks, plants still look plump & healthy with zero die-back/melt

Pretty little plant

Purchased 2 months ago. I bought this for a 5g betta tank, since it's slow-growing. It's settled in beautifully. No melt or loss of leaves, and it's getting new growth. As of today, it's got a bloom coming up on it! I didn't even know this plant blooms, so that's cool.

Excellent Plant

This plant arrived quickly and is in good condition with beautiful light green new growth contrasting against the dark. It is a little bit smaller than I expected, but it nestles in perfectly to a piece of driftwood in the tank so I'm not complaining. I am very very pleased with this plant, and am looking forward to seeing it grow, would definitely recommend!
