Bucephalandra on Medium Driftwood [Grower's Choice]

Group: Pack of 1

A mixed Bucephalandra planting already established on a medium piece of natural driftwood — the tying, gluing and waiting done for you. At three to four inches it is large enough to anchor a midground rather than sit as a detail accent, and it can be lifted and repositioned at any time.

What You'll Receive

  • Sustainable growth Buce species
  • Driftwood size: approx. 3-4 inches
  • Natural wood, handmade with love

As a Grower's Choice selection, our growers hand-pick the Bucephalandra varieties and pair them with the driftwood. We do not take requests for specific species or colours, and each piece is unique in size and shape.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Buce, Bucep
  • Scientific nameBucephalandra sp. (Grower's Choice)
  • Also known as — Tribe Schismatoglottideae, family Araceae
  • Origin — Borneo, Indonesia
  • Placement — Midground
  • Mature height — 2-5 inches
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — None needed; the wood sits on top and the rhizomes stay in open water
  • Growth habit — Amphibious epiphyte, feeds from roots and water column
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • Do not bury the wood. Set it on the substrate or wedge it between rocks. Pushing it under gravel buries the rhizomes underneath, and buried Buce rhizomes rot.
  • It is meant to be moved. Lift it out for a water change, turn it, try it in three positions before committing. That flexibility is the reason to buy Buce on wood rather than glue it down yourself.
  • Expect roughly an inch of growth a year. Bucephalandra is among the slowest plants in the hobby. This piece will look much as it does now for a long time, which is why it works as a permanent feature.
  • New driftwood may float. Weigh it down or wedge it in place for the first week or two until it waterlogs. Do not bury it to hold it down.
  • Keep the light low. Slow growth means algae settles before the plant can outgrow it. Low to medium light keeps the leaves clean and holds the blues and purples better.

Notes

  • Pictures are not the actual plants you will receive, but a sample representation. Unless specific, we don't guarantee aquatic plants will be free of pests, and pesticides, grow emerged, or submerge.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

Lots of bang for the money

Well worth the money, large size, different plant varieties on same piece on wood 3-4" in size

Very healthy

The Bucephalandra arrived healthy and seems to be a sturdy plant (I should say plants since the log came with two varieties. A bit less dense than the sample photos they show and I would have preferred a piece of driftwood that didn’t look so obviously cut off at the ends. The 3 inch piece of driftwood did not fit into my nano tank along with the rest of the driftwood and stones I had already placed, so I ended up just j putting it in my 10 gallon. It’s beautiful, but it would have been perfect if not fit three driftwood issues... I would give 4 stars for the driftwood, but the plants are super healthy, so overall still 5 stars.

Arrived Alive!!!!

I just received my order in the mail. I was worried at first that coming here to Florida with all this heat I would get some dead ones. Was I surprised when I opened the box and everything was still alive and healthly. I have them sitting in a bucket of water waiting on my tank to arrive tomorrow. I Will order from this great company again. Thanks

Recovering nicely.

Did not arrive in good condition as post sent it on a 4000+ mile journey in the winter time. These plants did recover and are doing nicely sending out new growth. Most of the bucephalandra is extremely hardy it seems. The Bucephalandra Godzilla 'Kedagang Red' Seemed unaffected by the posts delay. Despite the awesome job packing. The non Buce on that order all died. :(

Are these plants safe for fish?

Aquarium Plants Factory

Yes

J
Jason

how many plants are attached to this peice of wood?

Aquarium Plants Factory

Since this is a "Grower's Choice" piece, the exact number of plants varies a bit from piece to piece - our growers hand-attach a mixed assortment of Bucephalandra varieties to fill out each medium driftwood piece (roughly 3-4 inches), so you'll typically get a small cluster of a few plants rather than just one. Each piece is unique, so the count and species mix will vary a little between orders.
