Grower's Notes

• Do not bury the wood. Set it on the substrate or wedge it between rocks. Pushing it under gravel buries the rhizomes underneath, and buried Buce rhizomes rot.
• At 1-2 inches it is a nano piece. This is detail work — a focal accent in a small tank, or one element among several in a larger layout. It will not fill a midground on its own.
• Expect roughly an inch of growth a year. Bucephalandra is among the slowest plants sold, which is precisely why a piece like this holds its composition for years without trimming.
• New driftwood may float. Weigh it down or wedge it for the first week or two until it waterlogs. Do not be tempted to bury it to hold it in place.
• Keep the light low. A slow plant under bright light collects algae faster than it grows. Low to medium light keeps the leaves clean and holds the blues and purples.
