🌸 Bucephalandra ‘Red Mini’ – Scarlet Gem of Borneo

Bucephalandra ‘Red Mini’ is a striking and compact Bucephalandra variety renowned for its vivid red-bronze foliage and petite size. Originating from the riverbanks of Borneo, this beautiful plant showcases slender, oval leaves with a deep ruby to copper tone that glows under high or RGB lighting. Its miniature growth habit makes it an ideal choice for nano aquascapes, foreground accents, or driftwood details. Slow-growing, hardy, and easy to maintain, ‘Red Mini’ adds a bold yet refined splash of color to any aquascape.

🌟 Key Features

  • Scientific Name: Bucephalandra sp. ‘Red Mini’

  • Common Name: Buce Red Mini

  • Brilliant Coloration: Deep red to bronze leaves that shimmer with a metallic sheen under aquarium lighting.

  • Miniature Growth Form: Naturally compact and low-profile—perfect for nano tanks and small aquascapes.

  • Leaf Texture: Smooth, rounded leaves that intensify in color under strong or RGB lighting.

  • Hardy & Adaptable: Thrives in a wide range of water parameters and lighting levels.

  • Epiphytic Nature: Attaches easily to driftwood, stones, or hardscape—rhizome must stay above substrate.

🌱 Growth & Propagation

  • Lighting Needs: Low to medium light; stronger lighting enhances red hues and metallic reflections.

  • CO₂ & Fertilizers: Optional, but beneficial for faster growth and richer coloration.

  • Growth Method: Rhizome-based; do not bury the rhizome.

  • Nutrient Substrate: Not required—absorbs nutrients from the water column.

  • Can Be Grown Emersed: Yes – excellent for paludariums and humid terrarium setups.

🖼️ Aquascaping Benefits

  • Infuses vivid red and bronze tones that contrast beautifully with green plants and mosses.

  • Ideal for nano aquascapes, shrimp tanks, or as a bright midground highlight.

  • Perfect for collectors seeking color depth in small, detailed layouts.

  • Adds visual warmth and balance to both low-tech and high-tech aquascapes.

📍 Cultivation & Sustainability

At Aquarium Plants Factory’s nursery, all of our Bucephalandra species are 100% farm-raised—never taken from the wild. Each plant originates ex-vitro (grown from sterile lab culture) before being transitioned to hydroponic growth in our controlled environment. This ensures exceptional quality, pest-free plants, and sustainable preservation of Borneo’s native ecosystems.

      Small, melted

These were “minii” indeed. They also arrived okay but melted almost immediately, I have a stable tank with buce already present so they weren’t on the best of shape.

      Time will tell

These seem to be doing fine so far. They're growing new leaves after a couple weeks in my aquarium, which is a good sign. I am a little worried about longevity, since they seem to be a bit weak, so time will tell whether they truly establish or fail to thrive.
