Bucephalandra Species on Coco Pad [Grower's Choice]

Group: 1 Pad

Price
$19.99

Attaching Bucephalandra is the slow part — tying rhizomes to wood, waiting months for them to grip. This is that work already done. A mixed Buce planting grown into a natural coconut-shell pad, ready to drop straight into a tank and move around until it looks right.

What You'll Receive

Grower's Choice Bucephalandra species meaning we will randomly pick the species for you. We do not take requests for specific species or colors. Each order is randomly picked with one mystery species. It may be a bit bigger or smaller in size depending on the variety. We do not label or identify the species.

You will get 1 pad with many rhizomes of Bucephalandra. This is a HUGE-SAVING compared to buying an individual rhizome. We do not take requests for specific species or colors. Each piece is randomly picked, with random varieties and a unique shape that approx. 1x2 inches in size. It may be a bit bigger or smaller in size depending on the variety.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Buce, Bucep
  • Scientific nameBucephalandra sp. (Grower's Choice)
  • Also known as — Tribe Schismatoglottideae, family Araceae
  • Origin — Borneo, Indonesia
  • Placement — Foreground to midground; sits on the substrate or on hardscape
  • Mature height — 2-4 inches
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — None needed; the pad sits on top and the rhizomes stay in open water
  • Growth habit — Amphibious epiphyte, feeds from roots and water column
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • Do not bury the pad. Set it on the substrate or wedge it between rocks. Pushing it under gravel buries the rhizomes underneath, and buried Buce rhizomes rot.
  • It is meant to be moved. The whole point of a pad is that you can lift it, reposition it, or take it out for a water change without disturbing anything else. Use that — try it in a few spots before deciding.
  • Expect roughly an inch of growth a year. Bucephalandra is among the slowest plants sold. The pad will look much as it does now for a long time, which is exactly why it works as a permanent feature.
  • Keep the light low. A slow plant under bright light collects algae faster than it grows new leaves. Low to medium light keeps the leaves clean and holds the blues and purples better.
  • The coconut pad will soften over time. That is normal. By the time it does, the rhizomes have knitted together and hold their own shape.

Notes

  • Pictures are not the actual plants you will receive, but a sample representation. Unless specific, we don't guarantee aquatic plants will be free of pests, and pesticides, grow emerged or submerge.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Customers praised these aquatic plants as "nice looking" with "excellent quality." The coco pad mounting makes them "easy to place in aquarium" - just "drop it in and watch it thrive." Shoppers noted generous quantity, with one saying "so many of them!! Lots more than vitro." Some received inconsistent leaf coverage, and occasional melt on arrival was reported.

Incredible Value

I was originally going to do a Buy 2 Get 1 Free on another Buce, but when I saw how much comes in this offer I took a chance.

It was worth it to say the least. The Buce was in healthy condition, had two flowering buds, and had so much Buce. It was hanging off the edge of the stone.

I like how I just plopped it into my tank and it immediately became a focal point. Can't wait for some colors to show up.

I just wished there was a label on the bag to know what kind of Buce it is though. But overall I would definitely recommend and buy again!

Solid quality

The plants shipped well. I ordered five slates and got a variety. They've been healthy in my aquarium. I've held off on reviewing to verify that they would do well, and I'm glad to say that under medium light and Co2, they've flourished. Any buce is expected to behave in the same way, but I figured I'd wait on these guys anyways.

Mobile buce!

I love gluing plants to things. Mashing delicate roots into sticky goo, then trying to unstick my fingers without pulling the plant off is a real blast. And the white blobs left behind from multiple attempts? Bonus!
This coco pad completely ruined the fun. All I had to do was drop it in and watch it thrive. Scratched my mustache afterwards and didn't pull out any hairs! (Yes, I have a mustache. You should too)
Thanks for sucking the life out of my hobby APF! ; )

Do they come with a label on the package as to what kind of buce they are once we receive them?

Since this is a Grower's Choice mix, we don't label or identify the exact species on the package - each pad is randomly picked with an assorted mix of Bucephalandra varieties, so no two orders are quite the same.
