A Bucephalandra Species Vitro Culture [Grower's Choice]

Sale price
$14.99
Regular price
$19.99

Bucephalandra is priced by name as much as by plant. This is the same lab-grown stock without the label — a sterile tissue culture bag of a species our growers pick from whatever is looking best that week. You do not choose which one, and that is why it costs less.

What You'll Receive

  • One sealed 4-inch Vitro Culture® tissue culture bag
  • Approximately 4 small plantlets grown in sterile nutrient gel
  • Grower's Choice — a randomly selected Bucephalandra species, unlabeled
  • 100% free from snails, algae, pesticides and pathogens
  • Rinse the gel away and separate the plantlets before planting

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Buce, Bucep
  • Scientific nameBucephalandra sp. (random selection)
  • Leaf colour and shape — Varies; may include green, red, blue or iridescent tones
  • Origin — Borneo, Indonesia
  • Placement — Foreground to midground, attached to hardscape
  • Mature height — 2-4 inches
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium
  • CO₂ — Not required, though it speeds an already slow plant
  • Water — 72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5
  • Substrate — None needed; tie or glue the rhizome to wood or rock
  • Growth habit — Amphibious epiphyte, feeds from roots and water column
  • Propagation — Rhizome division

Grower's Notes

  • Tissue culture is the clean way to buy Buce. Wild-collected and pond-grown rhizomes are the usual route for snails and algae into a shrimp tank. This arrives sterile, which matters more on a plant you intend to leave attached for years.
  • Never bury the rhizome. Tie or glue the horizontal stem to wood or rock and leave it in open water. Buried, it rots, and a plant growing an inch a year does not come back quickly.
  • You cannot request a species. Every bag is picked at random and shipped unlabelled. If you need a particular variety, buy it as a named listing — this exists to be good value, not to be chosen from.
  • Separate the four plantlets before attaching. Rinse the gel off and spread them across your hardscape. They knit together far better than one lump glued in place.
  • Keep the light modest. Slow growth means algae gets there first under strong lighting. Low to medium light gives cleaner leaves and better colour on nearly every Buce.

Notes

  • Photos are sample representations only. The species and coloration will vary. Plants are not labeled or identified. Avoid burying the rhizome; always attach to a hard surface for best results.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Customers praised these aquatic plants for arriving in excellent condition with generous quantities. Reviews highlighted that plants "came in great shape" and featured "at least 3-5 easily dividable individual plants" per bag. The grower's selection complemented other plants well. One concern: some fish may eat them.

  • At least 3-5 easily dividable individual plants per clump, agar was still very clear
  • Great choice by the grower to pick a plant that compliments the others I chose

It wanted to...

Plants arrived in great condition and I started out just fine in a good bright spot but some of the fish I added thought they were just too tasty and munched them down to nus, I am hoping they will come back but expecting the worst.

Received a good variety when purchased multiple, agar was still very clear, not old or signs of rotting/contamination. Minimum of 3 clumps in each bag ( size of bag ~5cm x 7.5cm) but usually more and each clump is at least 3-5 easily dividable individual plants.
