The crypt that grows almost anywhere. Cryptocoryne beckettii puts out oval leaves in green to bronze on a compact rosette, and it does it in soft water or hard, in low light, with no CO₂. One of the safest first crypts — and one of the most variable, so no two plants look quite alike.

Grower's Notes
- Expect it to melt after planting. Crypts drop their leaves on a change of conditions and rebuild from the roots over two to four weeks. Do not pull them out — the roots are working the whole time.
- Leaf color and shape are set by your tank, not by us. Beckettii is genuinely variable: the same plant can run green in shade and bronze under brighter light, and leaf width varies plant to plant. The one you receive will not match the photograph exactly.
- Plant the crown at substrate level. Bury the roots and leave the growing point exposed. A buried crown rots from the center.
- Feed the roots. Crypts take almost everything from the substrate. Root tabs or aquasoil give full leaves; inert sand with liquid dosing gives short pale ones.
- Hard water is no obstacle. If stem plants have disappointed you in hard tap water, the crypts are the group to try — and beckettii is the most forgiving of them.
