Cryptocoryne Pink Flamingo Vitro Culture

Want genuine pink rather than red? Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Pink Flamingo' is one of the few aquarium plants that delivers it — wavy, textured leaves in light pink to rose on a compact rosette. It is also one of the most demanding Crypts in the hobby, and worth understanding before you buy.

What You’ll Receive

One 4-inch sealed Vitro Culture® bag containing healthy Cryptocoryne 'Pink Flamingo' plantlets — ready to rinse, acclimate, and plant in your aquarium.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Pink Flamingo Crypt
  • Scientific nameCryptocoryne wendtii 'Pink Flamingo'
  • Also known as — Crypt Flamingo, Cryptocoryne Pink Panther
  • Origin — Cultivated form; the species is native to Sri Lanka
  • Placement — Foreground to midground
  • Mature height — 3–5 in
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Advanced
  • Light — Medium to high. Strong light intensifies the pink
  • CO₂ — Recommended. It holds color and compact form far better with it
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.5–7.5
  • SubstrateRequired. Root feeder — nutrient substrate or root tabs
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Substrate runners, slowly

Grower’s Notes

  • The pink is why it is difficult. Pink leaves carry far less chlorophyll than green ones, so this plant photosynthesizes less efficiently than any standard wendtii and has much less margin for poor light, unstable conditions or neglect. Treat it as an advanced plant regardless of how easy ordinary Crypt Wendtii is.
  • Expect a heavy melt. All Crypts shed leaves on a change of conditions, and Pink Flamingo does it harder than most. Leave it alone for three to four weeks and let it rebuild from the roots — pulling it up is what turns a recoverable melt into a loss.
  • Feed at the roots and don't move it. Crypts melt again every time they are relocated, and this one is slow enough that a second melt costs months.
  • New growth often returns greener before the pink comes back. Judge the color once it has settled, not on the first leaves.

Three ways to buy this plant. This listing is the 4-inch Vitro Culture® bag — several sterile plantlets, the best value per plant. There is also an established bare-root or potted plant if you want size now, and a small Vitro Culture® cup with one small rooted plant — the cheapest way in, and the slowest.

Want to go deeper? Read our complete Cryptocoryne Care Guide.

Notes

  • Photos are sample representations. Actual coloration may vary depending on lighting, CO₂, and nutrient availability. Melting may occur during the transition to submerged growth, but healthy regrowth is expected under stable care.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Outstanding quality!!

Even though the package was late (2 weeks) due to holiday season and Covid, the plants arrived healthy. Packaging was outstanding and they seem to be doing good in my mid/high tech tank.

Healthy and plentiful

The first time I ordered these they came looking healthy and really full in their cup, almost ready to burst. They immediately melted once I planted them in an already established mid/high tech aquarium. I know it's a very finicky plant, so I ordered more to try again and they arrived in even better shape than the first shipment. I'm trying an emersed start this time, excited and hopeful for it to make it this time!

Pink Flamingo

I bought two tissue cultures this time. It's been cold here, and they arrived in insulation but were still quite cold. They looked dark and a bit "mushy" in the package (wasn't the cup you normally think of) so I was a bit concerned. After putting them on the window sill for about 30 minute or so, the package warmed up and the plants seemed to revive.

After separating and cleaning the gel off, I managed to get six vibrant, fully healthy looking plants! They're in my aquariums now and seem to be adapting just fine. After three days, I see no melting to speak of, so these look like winners!!

Thank you, APF for another great purchase!!

Healthy-great looking

First time buyer. These are so nice.
I got 4 in each cup. I was surprised at how well the roots were established, vibrant, and clean.
Easy planting. No melting after a week. Amazing find. I plant to buy more and continue shopping APF.

The plants came in very healthy. There were plenty of portions to split between 3 tanks to add a pop of color. They have been my tanks for a few days now and thus far no melting! Very pleased with this purchase.

Awesome looking plants!

The tissue culture Cryptocoryne sp. Flamingo arrived in great shape. It’s such vibrant pink, that it creates a beautiful contrast next to green plants. You can see how the plants look in my tank on my Instagram (aqua.botanicae).

I’m a returning customer (found Aquarium Plants Factory on Ebay years ago), and I always buy from them with confidence.

It's PINK!

Gorgeous pink flamingo colored specimens arrived bright and healthy, as you have always provided with each of my orders. They immediately went into my newly scaped Iwagumi 20 L and became THE focal plants. They are stunning eye catchers. I've never seen an aquarium plant this color before. Outstanding! Thank you so much for offering the very best selections.
