The pink Crypt everyone wants and few keep. Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Pink Flamingo' carries pink and white variegation across the whole leaf — not a tint over green, but a genuine loss of chlorophyll. That is what makes the colour so striking and what makes the plant so slow and so unforgiving. Buy it knowing that.

What You’ll Receive

  • Sold as small Bare-root Plants or Potted plants
  • Bare-root plant | one small size, loose rooted plants
  • Potted plant | one rooted small size plant, potted with net pot and rockwool
  • Young plants grow in a controlled laboratory environment

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Pink Flamingo Crypt
  • Scientific nameCryptocoryne wendtii 'Pink Flamingo'
  • Also known as — Crypt Flamingo, Cryptocoryne Pink Panther
  • Origin — Cultivated form; the species is native to Sri Lanka
  • Placement — Foreground to midground
  • Mature height — 3–5 in
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Advanced. The variegation is why
  • Light — Medium to high. It needs more light than a green Crypt to make the same energy
  • CO₂ — Recommended. It holds colour and compact form far better with it
  • Water — 72–82°F · pH 6.5–7.5. Hard water suits it, as it does most Crypts
  • SubstrateRequired. Root feeder — nutrient substrate or root tabs
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Substrate runners

Grower’s Notes

  • Pink means less chlorophyll, which means less margin. A green Crypt survives neglect. Pink Flamingo doesn't — it grows slowly even at its best, so any setback costs months rather than weeks.
  • Expect it to melt after planting and rebuild from the roots over several weeks. That is normal for the genus and slower here than in green forms.
  • Place it once and leave it. Every move triggers another melt, and this plant recovers slowly.
  • Reversion happens. Under weak light or thin feeding it may push greener leaves — the plant compensating for lost pigment.
  • Want the colour with less risk? Cryptocoryne petchii 'Pink' is a beginner plant with a soft pink tone over green rather than true variegation.

Three ways to buy this plant. This listing is the established plant, bare-root or potted — the fastest to look like the photograph. There is also a 4-inch Vitro Culture® bag with several sterile plantlets, and a small Vitro Culture® cup with one small rooted plant — the cheapest way in, and the slowest.

Notes

  • Pictures are not the actual plants you will receive, but a sample representation. Unless specific, we don't guarantee aquatic plants will be free of pests, pesticides, grow emerged, or submerge.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Very disappointed

I purchased 3 pink flamingo crypts and they came tiny. The plants in the pots were maybe the size of a quarter. Nothing even close to the pics in the description. Not worth the money spent. Very disappointed with what I received.

No melt!

From ordering to receiving my plants took only 3 days. All were packaged well and arrived perfect even though the temps near me were in the 30’s.
I was dreading the infamous crypt melt, but this flamingo variation has been doing wonderfully so far. I’ve had them planted for about 2 weeks now and haven’t experienced any melting. It’s a very cute, subtle little pink plant.

Just as described, plants came well packaged and healthy. Cannot wait to see what they look like full grown.

15 day update!

Flamingo as expected did there normal small melt cycle. For the ones concerned by the low rating some people have given this plant, this happens because there grown outside of the water and when submerged melting occurs. New leaves are coming in very bright pink! This strain of crypts is technically supposed to be difficult but is booming thanks APF!

Not what i anticipated, and i think i messed it up..

Received what looked like a bulb with a bunch of half inch white leaves popping out of the top of it with very little roots at the base of the bulb(didn't see many but maybe the whole bulb itself were roots haha idk). It didn't look good, but i didn't think much about it until it died in my aquarium a week later, lol. Started looking into it after it died and realized that what i received looked absolutely nothing like what i see in the example picture of this tissue culture. I'm not going to tank the ratings on this plant though because i do think* it was my fault that they didn't make it but i'm not entirely sure, probably is on me. I should have done more research that's for sure. I had the impression that this tissue culture was ONE plant ( description says pack of one*), so i planted the whole thing as one into my substrate and it's now dead(leaves fell off and cant see the plant anymore. So i looked up some videos on this tissue culture from other sellers and they split it into multiple plants.?. You live and you learn! -1 Star due to the health of the plant upon arrival (nothing like example picture) and because i'm salty that i spend 14$ on a plant that is now dead hahaha.

Take this review with a grain of salt though, i'm very new to aquariums and such. I have no idea if the plant will bounce back and shoot new leaves up or if i should go digging to find a dead bulb and remove it before it messes up the water.

Regardless, APF is a great shop and they do great work! Still love em! Not too sure what to think about this plant right now though but one thing is for sure, always do your research!!! (Picture shows plant when first planted in tank, its the white clump)

Took a bit to arrive

I ordered on the 24th of may, the shipment was sent on the 28th and it arrived 7 days later on June third. It was supposed to arrive on the 31st so I was a bit worried about them being DOA.

Aside from the Hydrocotyle Tripartita, everything was very healthy and I think (hope) the other will pull through.
