Floating Plants: Small Portion

Price
$4.99

The fastest nutrient sponge you can buy. Lemna minor — Duckweed — is barely 2mm across but multiplies faster than almost any aquatic plant, forming a dense surface mat that shades algae out and strips nitrate and phosphate from the water as it goes. Ponds and heavily stocked tanks clear noticeably with it.

What You’ll Receive

  • Sold as a small loose portion. Portion size: 2"x2"
  • Pictures are not the actual plants you will receive, but a sample representation.

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Duckweed
  • Scientific nameLemna minor
  • Placement — Free-floating on the surface
  • Size — Roughly 2mm per frond
  • Growth rate — Fast

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium
  • CO₂ — Not required. It takes CO₂ from the air
  • Water — 65–85°F · pH 6.5–7.5
  • Substrate — Not required
  • Growth habit — True aquatic, free-floating
  • Propagation — Budding — each frond divides itself

Grower’s Notes

  • Understand what you're introducing. Duckweed is famously difficult to remove once established — a single frond left behind repopulates a tank. Add it deliberately for nutrient control or fish food, not casually as decoration.
  • It is excellent food. Goldfish, koi, cichlids and many pond fish graze it, and it regrows faster than they can eat it.
  • Surface flow packs it into corners where it rots. Aim filter returns downward or use a floating ring.
  • Skim it back at every water change. Left unchecked it seals the surface and starves plants below of light.
  • It sticks to wet hands, nets and buckets — the main way it spreads between tanks.

Notes

  • Pictures are sample representations. Portion size and frond count vary naturally.
  • Never release aquarium plants into natural waterways.

What We Guarantee

24-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee — We guarantee that live plants and live aquatic animals will arrive alive. In the rare case of a Dead on Arrival (DOA), you must notify us within 24 hours of the delivery time recorded on the carrier's official tracking page. The guarantee is void after that 24-hour window, as condition can no longer be attributed to transit.

How to Submit a Claim

  1. Take at least 2 clear, well-lit photos of the affected items in their original, unopened, sealed packaging, plus a photo of the shipping label on the box.
  2. Email your photos and order number to hello@aquariumplantsfactory.com within 24 hours of delivery.
  3. Do not photograph plants or animals after they have been unpacked, planted, or introduced to your aquarium — once an item enters your aquarium's ecosystem, it is no longer covered.

Approved claims are resolved with a replacement, store credit, or refund at our discretion, under the terms of our Refund Policy. Each item is eligible for one replacement only — replacements are final and we cannot replace a replacement.

Conditions That Void the Guarantee

  • Incorrect or incomplete shipping address (vacant address, missing apartment number, or any issue that prevents delivery)
  • Packages marked "invalid address," "undeliverable," refused, or returned to sender
  • Packages left unclaimed, held at a carrier facility at the customer's request, or not retrieved promptly after delivery — live goods must be brought indoors and unpacked the day they arrive
  • Carrier delays, weather events, or delivery exceptions once the package has left our facility
  • Shipments to freight forwarders or package-forwarding services

Providing accurate, complete shipping information and monitoring your tracking are essential to keeping your guarantee valid.

Please note: the Live Arrival Guarantee covers arrival only. We cannot guarantee ongoing success — aquarium environment, water quality, nutrients, temperature, lighting, filtration, and CO2 all affect long-term results.

What We Can't Guarantee

  1. Pest-free plants (potted & bare-root): Although our plants are grown in our own clean greenhouse, we cannot guarantee they are 100% free of snails, algae, or other hitchhikers. We recommend rinsing and quarantining all plants before adding them to your aquarium. Tissue culture (in vitro) plants are the exception — they are grown in sterile lab conditions, are 100% free of pests, algae, and disease, and have never been in contact with any aquarium.
  2. Pesticide-free plants: We use homemade, organic pest control in our greenhouse and never use copper-based pesticides, which are toxic to invertebrates such as snails, crabs, and shrimp. However, we cannot guarantee plants are entirely pesticide-free — always rinse and quarantine before use in invertebrate tanks.
  3. Your aquarium's success: We are not responsible for your aquarium inhabitants, including fish, shrimp, snails, and turtles. Please quarantine all plants before use.
  4. Growth form: Unless specified, we do not guarantee plants will grow emersed or submersed in your particular setup.

Please review your state's regulations on restricted plants, as we are committed to not shipping plants that are restricted in your area. Do not release any plants into the wild or waterways, as this can harm local ecosystems by introducing invasive species.

Your cooperation in protecting the environment is appreciated. For continuously updated information, refer to the USDA State Noxious Weed list here.

Thank you for your responsible commitment to environmental preservation.

Customers praised the healthy, vibrant plants and professional packaging. Many noted "arrived so green and without any damage," though some experienced melting or die-off. Survival issues often linked to sun exposure or lack of hardening instructions. Fish and aquatic animals love it. Concerns include insufficient quantity for larger tanks and occasional snails.

Most died

Unfortunately most to all have died within days of being added to my pond. I gave more stars as the customer service was great when replacing the first order that the USPS folks lost.

No directions

It would have been nice to get some directions in how to introduce the duckweed to the pond. As it is very few of them lasted more than a week. They seemed to get too much sun exposure. I wasn't aware that they would need to be hardened before adding them. :*(

Great Duckweed, survived my cat stepping on it

My aquarium arrived late so I received the plants before my aquarium got here. I put the duckweed in a bowl of water until then. My cat stepped on the bowl and duckweed went everywhere, but they all survived my cat's clumsiness. All of the other plants I bought also survived my cat.

Didnt get enough

Im not trying to complain, but it just wasnt enough for my 60 gallon tank. From reviews i figured one pack would be enough. Most of it is drying up on the sides or being eaten by minnows.

Great for beginners!

All I needed was a floating ring to keep them in place, but other than that these plants are great! I have a betta and some ghost shrimp and they all spend a lot of time underneath: seems like the new hangout spot!

Delivered In Great Condition

This is the first time I bought these plants and I have to say they are worth it! My snapping turtles and mollies love them, and I will consider getting more if I need to. They almost ate them all! Good thing I have the extra one free so I can grow them myself.
