Flame Moss Vitro Culture

The moss that grows upward. Taxiphyllum sp. 'Flame' sends tight, twisting shoots vertically rather than sprawling sideways — the effect is a cluster of dark green flames rising off the hardscape. No other aquarium moss does this, which is why it's used where a moss needs to have a shape rather than just cover something. This is the sterile Vitro Culture® format.

What You’ll Receive

  • Sold as a Tissue Culture plants with vitamin liquid/gel
  • Bag size: Approx. 4 inches
  • Sustainable growth aquarium plants species
  • Tissue Culture Technology | 100% Free from Snail, Algae, Pathogen, and Bacteria plus Extended Shelf Life on all in Vitro Plants

Plant Profile

  • Common name — Flame Moss, Fire Moss
  • Scientific name — Taxiphyllum sp. 'Flame'
  • Also known as — Vesicularia sp. 'Flame', Asian Flame Moss
  • Placement — Midground, attached to driftwood, stone or décor
  • Mature height — 2–4 in
  • Growth rate — Slow

Care

  • Difficulty — Beginner
  • Light — Low to medium
  • CO₂ — Not required
  • Water — 68–82°F · pH 6.0–7.5
  • Substrate — Not required. Attaches to hardscape
  • Growth habit — Amphibious. Also grows emersed
  • Propagation — Fragmentation — divide and re-attach

Grower’s Notes

  • Attach it to flat, horizontal surfaces. The vertical habit only reads properly when the moss has somewhere to rise from — the top of a stone, a flat branch, a ledge. Tied to a vertical surface it loses the flame shape entirely.
  • It spreads sideways very slowly, so a planted patch keeps its outline for months instead of creeping across the scape.
  • Tie it thinly. Thick pads trap detritus and rot underneath.
  • Trim the tips to encourage denser branching and a fuller flame.
  • Rinse the gel off completely before attaching, or it feeds algae in the first weeks — and algae in moss is very hard to remove.

great moss

plants arrived in great shape and are thriving in my tank. The tissue culture is priced decently compared to others and I appreciate the assortment of cultures as I have had issues with pests from other plants.

FLAME MOSS

Added this to a start-up tank (5Gal). Attached to rock in a few areas and substrate in others. Looking forward to seeing it mature. Plant arrived in great condition

the most beautiful flame moss ever purchased

The cultures arrived late, were runny and mushy, and had mold growing on them. I tossed 3 of them in the garbage. Washed the other 4 and put them in quarantine. Not a common experience with APF.

Love this Flame Moss

Cut it up pretty small, mixed with some water and crushed fluval stratum and painted a few lava rocks with it. Grew it out dry start then filled tank. Perfect, getting ready to order more for more rocks.

Great Moss!

I received this flame moss in my first order from APF and I absolutely love it! Really nice portion, healthy plants, and a good price!! Much better than this other plant site I had been ordering from. Their prices were too high for way less portion and quality. The flame moss is super vibrant green and surprisingly a bit hardier/substantial than I thought.

perfect moss

I bought it to cover a bit of wood and one of my pleco caves and it worked great! When it arrived it was in these cute little cups that made it so easy to wash off the tissue and glue to the cave.

Beautiful Flame Moss

Came looking vibrant green, just rinse the gel off the plants and place them where you want and sit back and watch them grow.
