Grower’s Notes
- Floating is a legitimate way to grow it, not a failure. Left at the surface it grows faster, throws roots into the water column and shades the tank below — useful in a shrimp or fry tank. Planted, it grows more upright and compact. Both are correct; choose deliberately.
- It responds strongly to trimming. Every cut forces branching, which is how a few stems become a bush — and how you keep a fast plant from taking the tank.
- It strips nitrate quickly, which makes it genuinely useful in a newly cycled or heavily stocked tank.
- Replant the trimmed tops. Cut stems root within days whether planted or floated.

Arrived alive but looking stressed. First day alil dead, second day half dead, third day al dead. Do ordered 4 replacements elsewhere and they are doing beautifully! I know melt away is expected but these melted too much.

Bought 3 orders of fresh cut plants, stuck the 3 bunches in my substrate and ot has very quickly started growing its way to the surface of the water. Love the look of this Brazilian pennywort; the stemmed, broad leaves with dangling roots forming a sort of lattice is awesome! Very beginner-friendly! Little melting, prone to algae growth on the leaves in my tank (similar to anubias), but my algae eaters (otos) help a lot with this growth.

Some of the leaves melted but I am still happy with the plants. It's actually looked very nice right now but sorry that I didn't upload a latest picture.

I ordered three plants from here and was a little nervous because I've ordered plants online before from other places and those ones arrived in poor condition. However, these plants (along with the variegated type and the marsilea hirsuta I ordered) all arrived neatly packaged, clean, and fresh. The delivery itself was very prompt. The pennywort I received was in a bit of rough shape: pale, several leaves dying back, somewhat haphazardly cut, (and has a bit of an odd scent?)
Perhaps I should've expected this since I bought an emersed cutting and planned on floating it, but the stem and root structure just isn't suitable to floating it now. It's growing fine, the new growth seems healthy, so it'll get there. But it will take effort and time to get it right.
So not terrible, and perhaps my expectations were off, but I regret this purchase.
