Ludwigia Ovalis Pink

Ludwigia ovalis breaks the pattern for the genus. Instead of pointed lance leaves it grows small rounded ovals arranged along the stem, and under strong light the whole plant washes over from green to pink. It is the softest-looking Ludwigia we carry.

Grower's Notes

• The pink is a light response across the whole leaf. Most red Ludwigia color the underside first. Ovalis shifts the entire oval leaf from green to pink under intensity, which is why a well-lit group reads as a solid block of color.
• Check what you are buying. Ludwigia ovalis is frequently mislabeled in the trade, most often confused with Ludwigia Atlantis. The round-oval leaf shape is the tell — Atlantis leaves are noticeably more pointed.
• Lean nitrate, steady iron. Keeping nitrate modest while dosing iron consistently is what pushes it pink. Cutting nutrients off entirely stalls the plant instead.
• Trim above a node and replant the top. Cut stems branch into two below the cut, and the removed tops root readily — the fastest way to turn six stems into a dense midground patch.
• Plant the stems apart. Bunched stems rot where the foam and weight sit. Separate them and space each half an inch apart so light reaches the lower nodes.
